An Autumn Ring

kindly produced by David Martin, Denman Tutor

This festive wreath uses garden material plus one bunch of roses, or other flowers purchased from a supermarket

Materials required

Oasis wreath, any size

Mixed Foliage/Berries

Crab apples

Roses (or other flowers) from a supermarket/florist/your garden

Cocktail sticks

Moss

1. Assemble the materials and equipment. It is best to use flowers and foliage as soon after collecting as possible or place in a bucket of cold water and leave in a cool place until required.

2. Cover the table with a plastic sheet

3. Soak the oasis wreath, upside down in the water for a minute or 2. DO NOT push the oasis under the water

4. Place one type of foliage at a time around the ring, roughly evenly

5. As you build up the arrangement try to leave a little space for flower stems

6. Place flower stems between the foliage

7. Now add some berries, (hypericum) and then skewer crab apples on to cocktail sticks and push into the oasis

8. Any remaining oasis that is visible can be covered with a little moss or more foliage

9. The finished result can be used as a centre piece or hung outside. It should provide enjoyment for about 4 weeks. Periodic watering will help to prolong the life of the flowers and foliage
