Vibration Systems

Vibration systems from 9 N (2 lbf) to 440 N (100 lbf)

TIRA products are subject to strict quality assurance proceduresdesigned to meet CE requirements as well as national and inter-national norms. This also applies to our proven testing andmeasuring systems where feedback from our customers helps usto retain high standards of quality and profitability now and inthe future. Quality management has been certified in terms of DIN ISO9001 since 1995, and DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008 since February2010.

These shakers use permanent magnets and areavailable as portable and stationary systemsfor simulating ambient vibration conditions.Robust design ensures a long service life, andtypical applications include structure analysis, sensor calibration and testing smaller subas-semblies. These exciters are characterized byhigh lateral and axial stiffness and come inlightweight construction as specified by indu-strial users.

New rare earth magnets have been added tothe range of conventional Alnico magnets, reducing weight from 30 kg to 10 kg for easyhandling particularly in mobile applications. Our vibration generators have proven theirworth in environmental labs, universities andindustrial production lines both for componentsand calibration. These complete systemsenable testing in accordance with national andinternational standards such as DIN, ISO, BS,MIL, IEC and ASTM.

Calibration shakers from 100 N (22.5 lbf) to1000 N (225 lbf)

In all fields of industry, in aviation, the automotive industry and inpower stations, vibration analyses and measurements for deter-mining the vibration transmission are increasingly carried out.A large variety of measuring sensors is necessary to realize suchinvestigations. These measuring sensors have to be checked fortheir accuracy and calibrated in defined time intervals. As most of the measuring sensors have a large measuring rangeand large frequency ranges, special shakers for calibrating thesesensors are required.TIRA has risen to this challenge and designed a unique shakerwhich meets these requirements. This newly developed shaker isequipped with a special guide system and a vibration systemmade of ceramic material. It is characterized by a very highutilizable frequency range up to 25 kHz and with the appropriatemeasuring equipment it is optimally suitable for professionalcalibration applications. The “AC” calibration shaker has additionally a special air bea-ring with the advantage of being frictionless, wear-free and dam-ping spurious oscillations.

These exciters are specifically designed formodal and structure analysis. Modal thrustersup to 400 N are excited by permanent mag-nets, with lightweight rare earth magnets pro-vided for mobile use. These thrusters arecharacterized by high cross-axial stiffness. From 650 N onwards, modal thrusters permit amax. displacement of 50.8 mm due to TMCcontrol. TMC is an electronic armature positioncontrol system for precisely coupling the modalthruster to the specimen. The armature datumadjustment allows the operator to offset thenominal position of the armature in relation tothe body. A preload can easily be set. Theaxial stiffness can also be adjusted electro-nically.A standard feature on all modal generators isa swivel-frame. This allows a great variety ofcoupling options.

Inertial Systems

TIRA produces inertial systems (IN) in therange from 125 N to 650 N, which can bebolted directly to the structure and aligned atany angle within 360°. The generators have anexcellent lateral and axial stiffness. Excitationis made by permanent magnets, and a specialspring system provides optimal guidance sothat the full body mass can impact on thestructure. The generator is cooled by a maintenance-freefan, with cooling air entering through a filterassembly. As inertial generators from TIRAcan efficiently apply dynamic forces to largestructures, they have found their applications inmanufacturing, aerospace, buildings, civilengineering and shipbuilding.

Long stroke shaker with 102 mm displacement(pk-pk)

Due to the ever increasing safety requirements the industry deve-lops a wide range of sensor technology and components thathave to be tested under extreme stress conditions. The test parameters are developing to match higher accelerationsin combination with large impact ranges. These tests cannot berealized with conventional standard systems offering a displace-ment of 50.8 mm (2").TIRA has met the requirements of the industry to manufacture testinstallations that can imitate extreme shock simulations. It deve-loped a series of long-stroke shakers with a displacement of102mm (4”, peak -peak).Apart from their application in laboratories for testing develop-ment problems the integration of these shakers in complete pro-duction lines has been a proven advantage.

TIRA Slip Tables

OUR CONCEPT

TIRA slip tables are clearly designed and functional, whichmakes them easy to handle for smooth testing. Turning the shakerwill not limit conventional testing on the vibrating fixture. Stiffenedand welded structures at the base increase the reaction mass, while any undesirable transfer of vibration is damped. The linearguide system guarantees high stiffness of the slip plate and mini-mize cross vibration if the test setup is not symmetrical.

TIRA's Monobase slip tables are available in different versions:

TESTING UNDER STRESSToday's equipment has to work in all kinds of environments in-cluding changes of temperature, vibration, and high humidity. From the design stage right through to final inspection, combinedvibration/climatic test systems can simulate the effect of environ-mental conditions on electric, electronic and mechanical compo-nents. Weak points can thus be detected at an early point andeliminated at low cost. Properly designed key parts will preventexpensive downtimes and/or damage. Such multi-test systems areindispensable for quality assurance, research and development.

DRIVER BARSTIRA driver bars provide the link between shaker and slip plate. They are FEM designed and made of magnesium. Depending onsize they are single pieces or welded together. Their geometricdesign enables perfect force transmission while minimizing themoving mass.

Driver bars are available for vibration generators with differentarmature diameters from 120 mm to 640 mm.

Our test systems guarantee your product functions.

VIBRATION ISOLATION, SAFE INSTALLATIONPneumatic isolation elements make it possible to install slip tableswithout expensive foundations. Due to the low natural frequencyof isolators (3 - 5 Hz), a wide test spectrum is applicable.

TEST OBJECT FIXINGTo simulate practical conditions, devices under test have to beexcited in their working position. TIRA has specific magnesiumfixtures for all applications.

Hydrostatically guided slip tables

Oil film slip tables with hydrostatic guidance from TIRA give youa compact system for a variety of vibration tests, including thoseof large and heavy specimens which generate high yaw, roll andpitch moments due to their high centers of gravity above the slipplate. These tables use high-pressure bearings with a separate hydrau-lic supply unit.

The monobase design enables rapid conversion from horizontalto vertical testing and the accurate alignment of vibration gene-rators relative to slip tables. Magnesium slip plates are availablein different sizes, up to a working area of max. 2000 x 2000 mm.Other (and larger) sizes can be produced on request. Oil-film slip tables consist of a precision grinded and lapped natu-ral granite block with a magnesium plate sliding on an oil film.

Hydrostatic slide bearings make it possible to apply the high yaw, roll and pitch moments as they appear with heavy test items orvery large loads which may have a high centre of gravity.Hydrostatically guided slip tables are used to test specimens in ahorizontal direction.

Vibration isolators are provided on the underside of the frame asa standard feature to prevent vibration transfer to the building.

Load-bearing platform (guided head expander)FEM-designed head expander

TIRA offers a wide range of head expanders, L and T-type fixtu-res, cubes and special support systems. The latest software forFEM calculation and analysis is used so that customers get specifi-cally designed fixture assemblies with optimized and predicteddynamic performance to produce the best result.

Fixtures are often main items of application conditions inindustrial testing where specimens are tested to high standards ofprecision. This means that the fixture has to be optimized for boththe specimen and the test parameters. Many customers, however, can't do these sophisticated calculations to produce a suitable fix-ture. TIRA has met this challenge and will develop, calculate andmanufacture any type of special-purpose fixtures for your appli-cation, with the emphasis on minimizing its weight and optimizeits dynamic performance.

Monobase systems with a horizontal slip table and verticallyguided load-bearing platform make it possible to test extremelylarge and heavy loads in direction of x, y and z axis. Specially-designed slip tables and load-bearing platforms are availablewith a working area of max. of 2000 mm x 2000 mm (78 x78"). Slip plate and load-bearing platform are accurately alignedin a common base frame. Conversion from horizontal to verticaloperation is easy and takes a minimum of time.

Temperature/Climatic Test Systems

The quality, reliability, and safety of products require utmost carefrom the concept to the end-user.To meet this ambitious requirement, one nowadays investigatesthe interactions between objects and their direct or indirectenvironment by means of environment-testing systems. Basedupon such experience, products are developed with reference tospecific applications as well as high quality and long lifetime.Such flaws as material and production faults can be detectedearly and costly breakdowns or callback actions are avoided. In practical use, the products are exposed to various environ-mental influences at the same time such as e.g. temperature, humidity, vibrations, and transport loads. User-specific one-sidedtest systems are used as combinations in the test setup and linkedto form full test systems. TIRA delivers full test systems from onesource.

Product range:• Chambers for simulating environmental conditions

(temperature, air humidity, pressure, irradiation, vibration)

• Temperature shock testing installations(air/air, liquid/liquid, horizontal, vertical)

• Corrosion test chambers and devices for artificial weathering(salt nebulization, air pollutants, ultraviolet irradiation)

• Combined vibration chamber systems(complete vertical and horizontal solutions)

• Walk-in special installations(air-bag test chambers, sunlight simulation, open-plan cells)

With TIRAvibro a series of vibration testingchambers for combined testing proceduresunder climatic and thermic influences andmechanical and dynamic loading was develo-ped.The climate- and temperature-testing chamberscan be adapted to any vertical and horizontalvibration system. They are especially optimisedfor the operation with TIRA vibration testinginstallations and for the integration in completeTIRA systems. Due to the integration in systemsolutions the testing chamber and the shakercan be operated by a common test software(TEC). Exchangeable or fixed base plates arethe interface for coupling the shaker to the testchamber. In dependence on the kind of vibrati-on test a permanently installed base plate ortwo flexible base plates are inserted into thetest chamber.

Temperature/Climatic Test Systems

TIRA has developed a new leadthrough for the operation ofshakers with climatic chambers. This leadthrough allows in com-parison to the previous systems with headextender and massivethermobarrier plate a significant better configuration of thetemperature differences. This enhancement is achieved by a spe-cial honeycomb structure of the armature sided plate and theintermediate plates at which the isolation is substantially in-creased by a displaced arrangement of the inner fins (Thermalconduction only by the outer ring and the bolted connection). Thisway an operation of sensitive climate with higher dew points isbetter possible. Therefore more constant temperature conditionsfor the test material are present. The condensation of humidity outof the testing air is reduced considerably. At cooling operation ofthe chamber the shaker inside is better protected againstcondensation.

The new model offers by the honeycomb structure in addition tothe significantly enhanced isolation attributes also a weightadvantage of about 30%.

TIRA offers a new series of analog amplifiers with a rated sinu-soidial power output up to 1200 VA. The modules control all per-manent magnetic shakers as well as shakers in connection withan internal field excitation up to 1600 N.These amplifiers, equipped with highly-advanced MOSFET tran-sistors, can be run in the current or the voltage mode, as desired. The amplifiers are user-friendly because of their background-litmultifunctional display.A safety management system monitors functions such as tempe-rature, overcurrent and overtravel and avoids the destruction ofthe amplifier in case of short circuit.A high signal-to-noise ratio and a low distortion factor areoutstanding features. Selectable ranges of operating voltage andcurrent range limiting are preconditions for the fact that TIRAamplifiers can be readily adapted to other shakers from othermanufacturers.Optionally, the amplifiers are designed for connecting the elec-tronic zero-adjustment unit “Tira Middle Control“ (TMC), whichmakes even with small longstroke-shakers a load compensationfor achieving the nominal displacement possible.Optionally a remote control in hardware or software is availa-ble (from BAA 500).

PUMA is based on the innovative CATS architecture (ComputerAided Test Suite). PUMA is optimised for „Multi Tasking“ and isbased on the industry-standards for network connection and dataexchange protocols. PUMA makes your complete test cycle time-saving and more efficient.

PUMA offers a wide range of options for integration with condi-tioning cabinets and other test equipment. The unique “Client/-Server” architecture allows the automation of test functions in thetest laboratory. PUMA allows monitoring and complete control ofthe test over network and even internet. With the help of theActiveX automation option, control- and analysis functions can befit into higher-level program flows by using Visual Basic, C++.JAVA or National Instrument LabView™.

The VibControl Vibration Control software finds in our VibPilotHardware platform an ideal completion for comprehensive vibra-tion tests. The 4/8-channel VibPilot is an all-rounder, that hasbeen developed for vibration tests as well as for vibration analy-sis with the SO Analyzer Software. VibPilot achieves excellentmeasuring accuracy and an impressive real-time performance byusing state of the art IC technology. The compact and robust devi-ce has a clearly arranged front panel with four or eight BNCsockets for the input signals. For increasing the number of chan-nels, two or more VibPilots can be operated together, at whichthe master clock of the first device takes over the accurate syn-chronisation of all devices. The performance of the single deviceis hereby not affected.

The VibPilot Hardware platform supports the extensive functiona-lity of VibControl software, which includes simple sine or randomtests over complex tests with random signal excitation, that isoverlayed with a multiple sine signal, up to a load simulation intime interval. Of course all tests are accomplished according tothe respective standards ISO, DIN, MIL and IEC.
