COMMITMENT TO SAFETY, HEALTHAND ENVIRONMENT According to the National Transportationand Safety Board, pipelines are thesafest, most economical way to transportproducts. We are committed to the safeoperation of our natural gas pipelines inyour community. In fact, we monitor theoperations of our pipelines from ourcontrol centers 24 hours a day, sevendays a week. Our natural gas facilitiesare designed, installed, tested, operatedand maintained in accordance with allapplicable federal and staterequirements. Because safety is soimportant, we’re dedicated to having anexcellent pipeline safety program, including routine inspections, corrosionprotection, maintenance and testingprograms, employee training and publiceducation. Due to their proximity to populated orenvironmentally sensitive areas, someportions of our pipeline systems havebeen designated as High ConsequenceAreas. These areas are subject toincreased inspection and maintenancemeasures, known as an integritymanagement program. More informationon Vectren’s integrity managementprograms and natural gas safety can befound at Vectren.com/Energy-Safety.

If a gas pipeline emergency were tooccur, Vectren personnel will workdirectly with local emergencyresponders. Our priorities at the scene ofa pipeline emergency are the same asyours - protect people, property and theenvironment. Vectren field personnel aretrained in Incident Command Structure(ICS) and familiar with how to work withlocal responders within the ICSframework. Vectren personnel will restrictthe flow of gas and implement otheroperating actions as needed to minimizethe impact of the emergency.

Public safety officials and otherunauthorized personnel should notattempt to operate pipeline valves on thepipeline, as this could make the situationworse and cause other accidents tooccur.

Since most pipelines are buriedunderground, pipeline markers are usedto indicate their approximate locationalong the route. They are commonlyfound where a pipeline intersects astreet, highway, railway or river, and theydisplay:

• The material transported in the line• The name of the pipeline operator• A telephone number where the pipeline

operator can be reached in the event of an emergency

For your safety, always call before youdig. Call 811, the Call Before You Dignumber, at least 48 hours (two workingdays) before you dig. It’s easy, it’s freeand it’s the law.
