• The Indian constitution came in to force on Republic Day, thus replacing the archaic Government of India Act (1935)• Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution was created and is a remainder of the hard work and dedication of the countries freedom fighters, says Vaikundarajanhttp://vaikundarajans.wordpress.com

• On 26 November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India passed the Constitution but it was only adopted on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, says Vaikundarajan• This enactment completed the country's transition toward becoming an independent republic• The date of 26 January was selected because it was this day in 1930 when Purna Swaraj was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress
