V-Cert Music TechnologyIdea – Design a How to pamphlet for others???
The learner will: 1 Be able to set up a digital audio workstation The learner can: 1.1 Select and launch appropriate sequencing software 1.2 Connect peripheral MIDI hardware to a computer
using appropriate interfaces 1.3 Connect audio sources to a computer using
appropriate interfaces 1.4 Configure software preferences to correctly route
MIDI inputs and outputs 1.5 Configure software preferences to correctly route
audio inputs and outputs
Unit 01 - Set up and operate a digital audio workstation
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
1.1 Select and launch appropriate sequencing software.
Pass - Candidates select and launch appropriate sequencing software.
Merit - Candidates demonstrate critical understanding in the selection and launching of appropriate sequencing software.
Distinction - Candidates demonstrate originality and fluency in the selection and launching of appropriate sequencing software.
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) is a computer programme that allows user to create, record and produce music.
I have looked into 3 DAW’s that are common used within the music industry.
Logic Pro Garage Band Cubase
Select GarageBand Select New Project Select Piano
I then created my own folder to save
any work
Select ChooseSelect Piano
I then named my work
I then set my Tempo, Signature and Key for my
piece
I then clicked create
MIDI Hardware
1.2 Connect peripheral MIDI hardware to a computer using appropriate interfaces.

MIDI inputs and outputs
1.4 Configure software preferences to correctly route MIDI inputs and outputs
Pass - Candidates configure software preferences to correctly route MIDI inputs and outputs.
Merit - Candidates demonstrate critical understanding in configuring software preferences in the routing of particular MIDI inputs and outputs.
Distinction - No Distinction for this AC
MIDI inputs and outputs 1.4 Configure software preferences to
correctly route MIDI inputs and outputsGarageBand does not
have a basic MIDI track but software instrument tracks respond to MIDI in
data.
To check your MIDI input is working you need to click on preferences and select the Audio/MIDI settings. Your MIDI device will be listed when
connected properly.
When GarageBand is receiving MIDI data a little
star appears in the transport window.
Because GaragBand does not send MIDI out data I have researched how Logic Pro would send MIDI output data. It
is in the preferences settings as seen here.
Audio inputs and outputs
1.5 Configure software preferences to correctly route audio inputs and outputs
Pass - Candidates configure software preferences to correctly route audio inputs and outputs.
Merit - Candidates demonstrate critical understanding in configuring software preferences in the routing of particular audio inputs and outputs.
Distinction - No Distinction for this AC
Audio inputs and outputs 1.5 Configure software preferences to correctly route audio inputs and outputs
To configure the Audio input and output device you need to click on preferences in GarageBand and select from the lists for output and input.
Again I researched the DAW Logic Pro. By choosing preferences you get similar options for your audio settings.
Audio inputs and outputs 1.5 Configure software preferences to correctly route audio inputs and outputs
With the audio track selected you can select the audio input.
Create a real instrument track.
The main audio output volume is controlled here on the transport bar
