Sophos Anti-virus is available free of charge to all University of Nottingham staff and students. To install Sophos anti-virus on Mac OS X, follow these instructions.

1. Download and install

1. Visit http://sophos.nottingham.ac.uk/ and click the link to download Sophos for Mac

OS X.

2. Locate the downloaded file (this will most likely be in your Downloads folder) and double-click on it to start the installation

3. Follow the installation process to install. Click Continue

4. Accept the agreement. Click Agree

5. Next click on Continue

6. Enter your computer administrator username and password to authenticate the installation:

7. Once the installation is complete, click Close

2. Configure Updates

1. Click the Sophos shield icon in the menu bar and

select Open Preferences…

2. Click the Auto Updates tab and ensure that the Update Location is set to “Company Web Server”.

3. Ensure that Address is set to: http://sophos.nottingham.ac.uk/savmachome

4. Enter your University username and password in the required boxes

5. Close the preferences dialog and again click the Sophos shield on the menu bar and select Update Now If everything is configured correctly you will see another window showing update progress.

3. Run first scan

1. Finally, once the update is completed, open Sophos Endpoint Security and click the

“Scan Now” button to perform a scan of your computer
