Dear Ms. Bussey:

In reference to your letter dated above, we offer to you the following comments:

On December 10, 1991, we sent two letters to you which indicated that the product referenced above would be processed in accordance with FIFRA section 6(f) (1) for the purpose of a Use Deletion and published in the Federal Register for a period of 90 days. This letter serves as notification to rescind these letters effective the stamped date of this letter.

With regard to the Award label, we understand that Ciba­Geigy did not submit an amended label for an "additional site" to the Agency for Approval. Therefore, to remove a "non-existing" site from the label would not warrant a Use Deletion.

with regard to the Logic label we have now determined that the California restriction does not constitute a deletion of use. Although we are accepting the label with this California

restriction we do not feel that it is appropriate to claim a use on the labpl and then claim that it cannot be used for that purpos~. We suggest that you consider using a separate label for marketing the product in California.

Your request to make the labeling changes outlined in a third letter of ours, dated December 10, 1991, at the next printing of labels is granted.

General Information

Award is an insect growth regulator with a mode of action specific to insects, and therefor~ has less influence on non-target organisms. Award is very easy and convenient to apply (see use directions below.)

Sites*

Award may be used on turf and other non-agricultural land including, but not limited to airports, roadsides, school grounds, golf courses, parks, picnic grounds, sports fields, other recreational areas, ornamental gardens, cemeteries, and other landscaped areas. Award may also be used in and around container and field-grown ornamental and non-bearing nursery stock and on sod farms (commercial turf).

*IN CALIFORNIA, THE USE OF AWARD IS CURRENTLY LIMITED TO USE ONLY ON HOME LAWNS AND IN THE LANDSCAPED AREAS AROUND THE HOME. DO NOT USE AWARD IN CALIFORNIA ON OTHER SITES.

DO NOT APPLY TO PASTURE, RANGELAND OR OTHER AREAS WHICH MAY BE GRAZED BY CATTLE, SHEEP, OR OTHER DOMESTIC ANIMALS.

FIRE ANT CONTROL

Award is slow acting but very effective for control of fire ants. Following application, Award is collected by worker ants and distributed throughout the colony. within 3 to 5 weeks, there is considerable ant mortality and a continual decline of the ant colony. In nurseries, apply Award as directed in and around container and field-grown ornamental and non-bearing nursery stock.

Avoid application during excessively hot periods of the d~y 0. when grass or other vegetation is wet. Heavy rainfall within 7 or 3 hours of application rna:' reduce effectiveness.

General Information

Award is an insect growth regulator with a mode of action specific to insects, and therefore has less influence on non-target organisms. Award is very easy and convenient to apply (see use directions below.)

SITES*

Award may be used on turf* and other non-agricultural land including. but not limited to airports. roadsides. school grounds. golf courses. parks, picnic grounds. sports fields. other recreational areas, ornamental gardens. cemeteries, and other landscaped areas. Award may also be used in and around container and field-grown ornamental and non-bearing nursery stock and on sod farms (commercial turf).

*IN CALIFORNIA. THE USE OF AWARD IS CURRENTLY LIMITED TO USE ONLY ON HOME LAWNS AND IN LANDSCAPED AREAS AROUND THE HOME. DO NOT USE AWARD IN CALIFORNIA ON OTHER SITES.

FIRE ANT CONTROL

Award is slow acting but very effective for control of fire ants. Following application, Award is collected by worker ants and distributed throughout the colony. Within 3 to 5 weeks, there is considerable ant mortality and a continual decline of the ant colony. In nurseries. apply Award as directed in and around container and field-grown ornamental and non-bearing nurse=v ~tock.

Avoid application during excessively hot periods of the da~ O~ when grass or other vegetation is wet. Heavy rainfall wi~~jn 2 or 3 hours of application may reduce effectiveness.

Methods of Application:

Apply Award bait when fire ants are actively foragin4. This is usually when soil temperatures are above 60°F.

In cases where reinfestation occurs or when very large mou~ds

Single Mound Treatment: Apply 1 to 3 level tablespoons of AWARD per mound, uniformly distributing material 3 to 4 feet around the mound. Do not contaminate kitchen utensils by use or storage.

Broadcast Application: Apply uniformly with ground equipment calibrated to give the correct do~age. Apply at 1 to 1.5 lb./A.

Aerial APalication: Apply uniformly with aerial equipment calibrate to give the correct dosage. Apply at 1 to 1.5 lb./A. Do not apply when weather conditions favor drift from treated areas.

Big-Headed Ant (Pheidole Megacephala) Control
