Unique Outcomes

Project: Adolescent dating violence with Dr. Martsolf, Destini, Dr. Draucker and their team.

• Theoretical framework study to describe, explain, and predict how dating violence begins, unfolds and ends.

• 90 interviews of young adults who experienced dating violence.

Goal: Unique Outcomes project focused on finding the parts of the transcripts that focused on a time participants felt better, strong or behaved in healthy ways.

Tasks: Analyze transcripts, develop categories, code identified “unique outcome” snippets, and contribute to the article.

CHMC

Project: Young adult adherence to management of care regimen with Caroline Morrison, Nicole and Dr. Martsolf

• Grounded theory study• 30-40 total participants• 60-90 minute individual interviews • Self-reported and electronically recorded adherence

Goal: Analyze adherence of young adults in management of their care regimen following initial discharge from the inpatient stem cell transplant unit.

Tasks: Conduct interviews, continue transcriptions, and assist with data analysis to find patterns in adherence.

What I learnedUnique Outcomes: Literature review for article/ data analysis

• How to identify unique outcomes from transcripts• How to improve the differentiation of coding categories• How to code snippets of transcripts • How to have phone conferences with a team of 7• How to create a search for key terms

CHMC: Data collection/ data analysis

• How to transcribe an interview from an audio recording• How to do line by line analysis

Personal Experience• Learned about data collection and data analysis stages of

the research process through both of these projects.

• Appreciation for working on research focused on young adults that have experienced a difficulty.

• I want to continue to assist with research.

• Would like to help publish an article.

• Desire to implement findings into the community.
