AN AREAL REPRESENTATION OF A CITY

The image of a city: peoples

    impression of a building ,a

    particular environment or the

whole city are more than just

    being visual.

    Within the city many

    connotations, memories

    experience smells hopes ,places

    ,building make us remember

    them

Normally the image of a city is that which the memories of a particular

place makes us in a mental mapand everyone perceives things

differently hence memory maps of each individual are bound to

    overlap.

hence we assume a collective image map or impression map as the

extractof image from physical reality and that forms the city image

    THE KEVIN LYNCH THEORY

Every work of architecture affects physical

    detail

So here is some points from the study of great

    urban designerPROF

    .KEVIN

    LYN

    CH

..whoworked on these points of extracting physical

reality of city image from the mental pictures

    which are chaotic in aspects

Paths ,landmarks nodes, district and edges are

    the skeletal framework

This forms the basis on which the other

embellishments are embedded to form the city

    personality.

    EDGES

    The termination of a

    district is its edge

    some districts have

    no distinct edges at

    all but gradually

    taper off and blend

    into another

    district
