One of our goals at Meadowvale Village
Public School is to teach our students
the importance of punctuality. When
students are late for school, they miss
the introductory instructions for the day
and interrupt lessons that are already in
progress for the children in the class. We
are asking all parents for their
cooperation in assisting their children
to arrive at school on time. The outside
doors are locked at 9:10a.m. Students
arriving after this time are late and must
enter the school by the front door. The
students are encouraged to be aware of
the time that they must leave home in
order to arrive at school on time.
The Peel District School Board will recognize Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week during the week of
November 16 to 22. Across the Peel board, schools use many programs and initiatives to prevent bullying
and to intervene when bullying happens. Though the programs vary, their messages are consistent.
Students are taught to: define bullying, identify forms of bullying, identify roles in bullying relation-
ships, for example the person who bullies, the target, the bystander or the trusted advocate,
determine how to safely “choose action” to prevent and intervene in bullying & harassment, demonstrate
character attributes and be a leader to help maintain positive and safe school communities. Every school has a
Climate for Learning and Working Team which is required to develop a Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan
as part of the School Success Plan. Also, every employee who is involved in the care and service of students is
obligated to report in writing to the school administration any action for which the Principal must consider
suspension or expulsion. Bullying is an offence that must be considered for suspension. Bullying Awareness and
Prevention Week is one of the key items contained in Bill 13: The Accepting Schools Act, that came into effect
on September 1, 2012. For more information, visit: www.peelschools.org/aboutus/safeschools/bullying/ or

On Thursday, October 2, 2014 some of the Grade 5 students had
the privilege of going to a huge conference called, "We Day" at the
Air Canada Center. At "We Day" the Grade 5's learned about
social, educational, technological and economical
empowerment. They were able to see Spencer West, Chris
Hadfield, Queen Noor of Jordan, Antonia Barbaric, Robin Wisowaty
etc. A bunch of musicians were also there such as Hedley, R5,
Neverest and Kendrick Lamar. They talked about the organization,
Free the Children and the many campaigns; We Create Change,
We Scare Hunger, We Are Silent, and We are Rafikis. It was a lot
of fun. They were inspired and challenged to change the world. Our
students have already changed our community with all of the food
donations here at our school this Fall. Watch for more upcoming
events on how the Grade 5's are going to challenge our students
here at MVPS to change our community and our world!" (Nathan,
Olivia and Dhruv from 5A)
PLEASE NOTE: Whenever you enter the building you MUST notify the office, sign-in and pick up a visitor
badge. At Meadowvale Village we try to provide continuity and a stable environment for ALL students to learn.
We asked some of our grade five student about painting the mural,
Sidewalk Safety Parents escorting their children to and from
school are reminded to walk on the
sidewalk, especially in the kindergarten
area. We want to teach children that the
safest way to reach their destination is to
walk on the sidewalk and cross at the
marked crosswalks.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please ensure that you are dropping off
and picking up your children on
Meadowvale Village P.S. property. There
are staff members on duty to ensure that
the children are supervised and safe at all
times.
Making family reading a part of your daily routine will help
your child to become a lifelong reader and learner.

Brandon said, ‘It was pretty fun. It
was a fun experience to help paint
the walls of the school. It helped
me learn how to paint and make
different textures.’
Kreshana said, ‘It was fun
and hard at the same time
because you had to mix
the cool colours, the warm
colours and both together.
Naseeb said, ‘We got a lot of opportunities that some
students in the school did not get. It was fun and we got
to express ourselves.’
Chyanne said, ‘It was a
really fun experience doing
the art. Sometimes people
stuck with their original
plan, while some people like
me did it freestyle and
that’s what art is all about.
Kenneth said, ‘It was a
really fun experience and
you could use your
imagination with shapes.
Amolika said, ‘I had a really good time painting because it
was my first time and I really like to try new things. I had
not painted on the wall before.’
Kabir said, ‘It was a really fun experience and
it was good to contribute to what the school
looks like. It’s my last year so it was fun to do
something like this before I go.’
Devon said, ‘I thought it was fun because
you could express your feelings. If you felt
mad you could draw pointy lines and if you
were happy you could draw curly lines.
Amy said, ‘We were lucky to have
this artistic opportunity because
school doesn’t do that much like this.’
Dalya said, ‘I think it was
a really fun experience for
me because I don’t get to
paint often.’

Meadowvale Village P.S. Remembers
The Remembrance Day observances at MVPS are particularly poignant this year for many
reasons. This year is significant because it marks a number of anniversaries and milestones in our
country's history. As always we are commemorating Remembrance Day to ensure that the sacrifices
and achievements of those who served in times of war, military conflict and in peace support
missions are recognized and remembered.
2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WWI; it is the 75th anniversary of the
beginning of WWII; the 70th anniversary of the Italian Campaign; the 70th anniversary of D-Day and
the Battle of Normandy; the 50th anniversary of Canadian Peacekeeping in Cyprus; the 40th
anniversary of loss of nine Canadian peacekeepers in the Middle East; the end of Canada's military
mission in Afghanistan and the rededication of the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
In order to highlight these many significant points in our history, Meadowvale will recognize
November as our Month of Remembrance. We have been working together to makes thousands of
poppies to hang in the windows of our school to honour those Canadians who gave their lives to
give us the peaceful society we enjoy today. The poppies will remain in the windows for the month of
November. As always, we will also be sending Postcards for Peace to the members of our armed
forces stationed around the world.
Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 11, 2014 at 10:30a.m. All parents are
welcome to attend. As it is a solemn occasion, we ask that parents do not photograph the
performances or speakers at this assembly.

The following winter school bus safety tips will help to keep your child safe throughout the winter months.
Allow extra time to get to your bus stop.
Wear bright clothing so the bus can see you in the early morning and late evening.
Stand away from where the bus stops. Buses need extra room to stop when there is snow and ice.
Use the handrail when boarding or exiting the bus to prevent slipping on wet or icy steps or road surfaces.
Dress properly—winter clothing, hats, and boots will keep you warm.
Don't throw snowballs at the bus or other children waiting for the bus.
Don't slide on the snow or ice patches in driveways or on the street.
Don't push or shove around the bus. Someone could fall down on the ice and get hurt.
On very rare occasions, buses are late because of weather conditions or mechanical problems. Talk to your child about what to do if the bus is late. Here are some suggestions:
When possible, wait with your child for the bus.
Make sure your child knows a phone number where he can reach you or another trusted adult.
Teach your child how and where to get help. Talk to your child about what a "safe" stranger is.
Help your child set up a bus stop buddy system so your child has someone to wait with for the bus.
Is Extended French right for

“Ugh. Math.” Unfortunately, this is the attitude many students (and adults) have about math. If we're going to help our students achieve numeracy greatness, we need to turn these negative attitudes into positive ones. So, our three-year math strategy, EngageMath, starts with something we have enormous influence over— our attitude towards math.
Everyone is born with a math gene
According to Stanford University Professor Carol Dweck, students who believe that intelligence or math and science ability is a fixed trait are at a significant disadvantage compared to students who believe their abilities can be developed. Like anything else, our talents and abilities in math are nurtured only if we have a growth mindset about them. A “Yes I can” attitude when it comes to numeracy is the first step. A “Count on Us” attitude comes next.

While the Peel board’s EngageMath strategy plans out certain actions, it is by no means a magic bullet to answering the questions and challenges surrounding numeracy and student achievement. Math success for all our students requires a strong partnership between home and school. That's why we're committed to providing you with the parent resources you need to help us boost math achievement. Online resources to help you support your child or teen's numeracy success are available on the Peel board’s website at http://www.peelschools.org/parents/helpyourchild/math.
