WHAT 'S INSIDE
REBECCA LOTHRINGERExecutive Director of Admissions
DEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS & PARENTS,Selecting a college is an exciting journey. This is an important decision for you that will pave the way to global involvement, leadership opportunities and future successes. No pressure! While the search will largely involve the student, I recognize that parents will play a significant role in this decision, too.
Throughout this booklet you will find helpful information to assist you in exploring college opportunities. The pages within address many of the activities experienced during the college search process. Along the way, you will also discover the unique aspects UNT and Denton have to offer, which make us a great choice for a college home. With 97 bachelor’s degrees, over 400 student organizations and our Division I athletic programs, there is something for everyone at the University of North Texas.
Allow us at UNT to accompany you on this journey. If you would like personal assistance, please know that the Admissions staff is eager to help. Let us show you why UNT is “north of ordinary” and why we are the academic choice for you.

There are many reasons 36,000 students call the University of North Texas home. Sure, we may have been named a “Best in the West” university by the Princeton Review for four years, and we might be one of America’s Best College Buys, but it’s more sentimental than that. Some students love our traditions, like the eagle claw and Boomer the cannon. Others love seeing the word “SMILE” written in the sidewalk outside Terrill Hall. And who doesn’t love the animal statues outside the Environmental Science building? While you’re here, we hope you find your reason to love UNT. But, above all, we hope you find yourself.
Schedule a visit at t o u r s . u n t. ed u , learn about us at u n t. ed u and submit your ApplyTexas Application at a p p ly t e x a s . o r g . Be sure to include any applicable test scores and high school or college transcripts.

The Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office has many options to help you pay for college. Be sure to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority date. Work-study programs and some scholarships are based on those results.
The Student Financial Aid and Scholarships office handles most of the UNT scholarships for incoming students. Students automatically compete for a limited number of renewable scholarships based on academic success in high school or at your previous college. We’ll pull your admission application for review, so no application is necessary.

UNT Phi Theta Kappa Texas Transfer Scholarships are available to PTK Honor Society members transferring from a Texas community college or an accredited Texas university with 45 or more attempted credit hours beginning Fall 2009. No need to submit an application, your records will be pulled for evaluation. There are awards for students with a 3.5 GPA or greater.

HOUSINGYour home away from home. Your first taste of independence. With 13 residence halls across campus, there are plenty of options to find one that suits you. Standard in UNT halls are a community common area with TVs and games, study areas, a computer lab, laundry facilities and a manned front desk. Housing staff work hard to keep the 5,700 residents involved in campus life with programming, Hall Associations, REAL communities, campus-wide housing competitions and year-long events that range from the domestic (like cookie baking and movies) to the ridiculous (ever played Assassin or life-sized Angry Birds?).
DININGWith the swipe of an ID card, a meal plan holder has access to five “buffet-style” dining halls, each with its own cuisine. The nationally recognized Mean Greens cafeteria is all-vegan (but not just for vegans) and Bruce Cafeteria serves delicious home-style cooking. There are also several on-campus restaurants, like Khush Rhoti, our very own food cart.
Whether you live on campus or you commute, there are several different meal plan options. Check out the dining website to find a plan that fit your budget and diet.

Many careers in these military branches don’t even require a specific major. Find out more about the Army ROTC at armyrotc .unt.edu and the Air Force ROTC at afrotc .unt.edu

Welcome to Denton, population 122,830. Some know it as a mini-Austin with a small-town feel. There are coffee shops, bands, a summertime community market and a new place to eat every time you turn the corner. There are also several annual festivals, such as 35 Denton and the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival, and there’s always live music at venues like Dan’s Silverleaf or Hailey’s.
Take the time to explore Denton. You won’t regret it.
