The campus
• The Tor Vergata campus was founded in 1982 in the southern part of Rome. TheThe Tor Vergata campus was founded in 1982 in the southern part of Rome. Thearea chosen for the new university, a large open space in the countryside, hasallowed the university to expand and develop a wide access network far from thecity’s congested traffic.
• The School of Economics has approximately 4,000 students enrolled. It hosts alibrary with more than thirty-thousand catalogued monographs and over two-thousand magazines and scientific journals (many of which available on line), a dataousa d aga es a d sc e c jou a s ( a y o c a a ab e o e), a da aprocessing centre and a language lab.
• In 2006, for the fourth consecutive year, the School of Economics was ranked first inthe Italian university guide based on a survey by the Italian CENSIS institution inthe Italian university guide based on a survey by the Italian CENSIS institution, incollaboration with the newspaper “La Repubblica” and, in 2009, it held third place.
• Nowadays Tor Vergata’s School of Economics has launched 4 new 2-year Master ofy g ySciences (Lauree Magistrali) all in English to create the right internationalenvironment that supports the injection of valuable candidates in the Ph. D.sprograms: Business, Economics, Finance and European Affairs.

The structure
The Ph.D. Program strongly relies on the synergy between theoretical research, empiricalapplications and innovation in the financial marketsapplications and innovation in the financial markets.
A Faculty evaluation system, critical for improving the content and the structure of theclasses, is in place. Non performing students are asked to abandon the program., p p g p g
First year
The first two semesters are entirely devoted to coursework, 500 hours of worky ,smoothed over 6 months of lectures.
Second year
Second year students start their research with a period abroad open to the bestSecond year students start their research with a period abroad open to the beststudents. Students remaining in Rome are asked to attend the Ente “Luigi Einaudi”Monetary Economics seminars and the CEIS - Centre for International Studies onEconomic Growth - Economics seminars organized at Rome University Tor Vergata.
Third year
Students are expected to complete their dissertation by the end of the third year.Motivated one year extensions may be granted upon careful evaluation by theScientific Board
