1. A friend texts you asking you to help him on his math assignment. The text reads, “Six less than three times a
number is greater than twelve… Can you help me write the inequality?”

2. You’re on a quick shopping spree at Target and to your surprise, they’re having a sale – if you spend at least $100
(before tax), you get 30% off your total bill. You already have three items in your cart – toothpaste ($4.99),
garbage bags ($12.99) and a new back pack ($39.99) – and you’re going to load up on paper towels ($19.99 for a
jumbo pack) to help you reach the $100 mark.
a. Write an inequality to represent the number of packs of paper towels you’d need to buy to reach the $100
savings mark.
b. What is the minimum number of paper towel packs you’d need to buy to save 30% on your total bill?
3. Keith has $500 in a savings account at the beginning of the summer. He wants to have at least $200 in the
account by the end of the summer. He withdraws $34 each week for food, household items and gas.
a. Write an inequality that represents Keith’s situation.
b. How many weeks can Keith withdraw $34 from his account if he wants to have at least $200 saved?
