WHAT IS NARCISSISM?Narcissismisacharacterdisorder,inwhichapersontendstohaveaninflatedsenseofself-importance;bepreoccupiedwiththoughtsofgreatsuccess,powerandcontrol.Narcissistslackcompleteempathyandemotionalconnectiontoothers.Andwith their sense of entitlement they exploit others inanarrogant,superior,demandingway,takingfulladvantageof others as theirmeans of narcissistic supply (technicallymakingthemavictimofnarcissisticabuse).

THE EFFECTS OF NARCISSISTIC ABUSE:There are many profound effects of being a victim ofnarcissistic abuse, whether the perpetrator is a parent, asibling,asignificantother,afriend,aco-worker,aboss,etc.Regardlessof the circumstances, this formofpathologicalabuseissoseverethatthevictimwillexperienceaprofoundsense of trauma and loss of identity, with devastatingoutcomes. 

UNDERSTANDING THE NARCISSISTS WEB OF DECEPTIONThe 21st Century has brought a “Narcissistic Epidemic”.Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a dangerousdiseasethatissweepingthroughoutallsociety,touchingallaspectsofourlives,threateningeverysingleperson,andcausingmanytobecometraumatisedvictimsofnarcissisticabuse(physically,emotionally,financially,etc).  Few people actually know what narcissism is, or howto identify the patterns of behaviour so they can avoidbecoming a victim. It is estimated that 1 in 16 peopleexperienceclinicalNPD,andasevery narcissistneedsaconstant supply of victims to support their fragile egos,therefore nobody is safe.The dysfunctional behaviourinvolves such callousmanipulation and exploitation ofthevictimthatithasgivenrisetoanewconditionknownas Narcissistic Victim Syndrome (NVS). Never has itbeen more important for mental health professionalsto understand NPD, and the catastrophic effects on thevictimsthatcomeintothetherapyroomdaily.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO GET FROM THIS WORKSHOP?Thisworkshopprimarilyconcentratesonlookingat “narcissistic personality traits” among thenormal population - behaviours and attitudesthatmayormaynotgofarenoughtowarrantaclinicaldiagnosis,butbadenoughtocausetotaldestructiontounsuspectingpeopleastheytrytolivetheirlives.Thiscommontypenarcissismisthecauseofmosthardshipdonetoindividualswithinfamilies,romanticrelationships,friendships,andtheworkplace.  

OnlyatrainedmedicalprofessionalcandiagnosesomeoneashavingNPD.Theintentionofthisworkshopisnottodothat,buttoprovideyouwithenoughinformationsothatyoucanrecognizenarcissisticpatternsofbehaviourinothers,andavoidenteringintothenarcissists“convoluteddance”.Theonlywayofstayingsafeistobeabletospotanarcissistbeforetheyspotyou.
