Full Dentures: Full dentures are for those patients who have lost all

of their natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or both. Full dentures

restore confidence in one's appearance, and help the wearer to speak

and eat normally.

Conventional Dentures: Conventional dentures are those that are

placed once the bones and gums have healed after the removal of

natural teeth. While there is a waiting period that can be frustrating, the

dentures normally fit properly the first time. Conventional dentures are

also the most affordable dentures option.

Immediate Dentures: Immediate dentures, as the name implies, are

placed as soon as the natural teeth are removed. With immediate

dentures, the patient need not face the world without teeth, can eat

normally much sooner than with conventional dentures, and does not

have the speech problems associated with the normal denture process.

However, since healing of the gums and jaw will change the fit of

immediate dentures, the patient will typically need a new set in about six

months.

Natural Looking Cosmetic Dentures: Instead of traditional

plastic prosthetic teeth, natural looking cosmetic dentures

are made with modern ceramic porcelain teeth. The dentures

are usually individually crafted, and look more like real teeth

than the plastic variety. Cosmetic dentures also have a more

natural looking support structure, and though they may cost

a bit more than conventional dentures, they are truly difficult

to distinguish from real teeth.

Not surprisingly, Washington found his ivory and

metal contraptions difficult to use while eating or

speaking. The ivory dentures also tended to

stain easily, requiring extensive maintenance.

Types of immediate Complete dentures

Advantages of immediate denture

consist in:

1. The denture acts as a bandage

or splint to help control bleeding; to

protect against trauma from the

tongue, food or teeth if present in

the opposing arch, and to promote

rapid healing

2. Patients regain adequate function

in speech, deglutition and

mastication much sooner compared

to conventional complete denture.

3. Many patients are not afraid to have teeth

removed if they can have them replaced immediately.

They would have a social and familial life without

embarrassment.

4. The remaining teeth are a real aid in establishing

the vertical dimension of occlusion and in positioning

the artificial replacement.

Disadvantages of immediate

Disadvantages of immediate denture are: 1. The immediate denture does not replace the

stimulation that was supplied to the bone by the natural

teeth.

2. The procedures are precise and time consuming

and require more appointments, particularly during the

adjustment phase.

3. The resorbtion is faster than the changes of

healed tissue. These changes require new impressions

to keep the denture base adapted to the basal seat. The

remounting of the dentures to refine the occlusion is

necessary whenever the denture base is altered.

4. There is no opportunity to observe the anterior

teeth at the try-in appointment; therefore, the esthetic

result cannot be evaluated until the dentures are

inserted.

Immediate dentures, sometimes referred to

as temporary dentures, are set into the open

gum sockets immediately after the natural

tooth has been removed. Immediate

dentures give the advantage of walking out

of the dental office with new teeth the same

day. However, as the gums begin to heal

and swelling goes down, some shifting can

take place and the denturist will need to

make further adjustments to align the teeth

properly.

Different Types of

Dentures

complete denture an appliance replacing all the teeth of one

jaw, as well as associated structures of the jaw.

implant denture one constructed with a metal substructure

embedded within the underlying soft structures of the jaws.

interim denture a denture to be used for a short interval of

time for reasons of esthetics, mastication, occlusal support,

convenience, or to condition the patient to the acceptance of

an artificial substitute for missing natural teeth until more

definite prosthetic dental treatment can be provided.

Different Types of

Dentures

overlay denture a complete denture supported both by soft

tissue (mucosa) and by a few remaining natural teeth that

have been altered, as by insertion of a long or short coping,

to permit the denture to fit over them.

provisional denture an interim denture used for the purpose

of conditioning the patient to the acceptance of an artificial

substitute for missing natural teeth.

transitional denture a partial denture which is to serve as a

temporary prosthesis and to which teeth will be added as

more teeth are lost and which will be replaced after

postextraction tissue changes have occurred.

Precision Equilibrated Dentures

Precision Equilibrated Dentures are customized

to function in the most natural way possible.

Very precise measurements of the movements

of your jaw ensure that the dentures will function

with much greater efficiency than standard

dentures.

Our office uses the Biofunctional Prosthetic

System (BPS) to fabricate precision dentures.

This is a very exciting product that has helped

many people reclaim a healthier lifestyle.

Conclusion

For Complete Dentures

• Precision Equilibrated

dentures

• Standard Dentures

For Partial Dentures

• Cast Titanium

• Flexible Plastic

How Are Dentures Made?

Make a series of impressions of jaws and take

measurements of how patient’s jaws relate to one

another

and how much space is between them.

Create models, wax forms, and/or plastic patterns

in the exact shape and position of the denture to be

made.-"try in" this model several times and the

denture will be assessed for color, shape, and fit

before the final denture is cast.

Cast a final denture

Adjustments will be made as necessary

Standard Non-Equilibrated

Dentures

Standard Non-equilibrated Dentures do not

take advantage of the latest technology for

fabricating dentures and tend to have greater

limitations in diet and esthetics. Our office

admittedly favors Precision dentures due to

the outstanding results we have achieved for

patients however we do offer standard

dentures to those with economical

considerations.
