•Turned down by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), Carry went looking to get her
dislike of alcoholism heard. When, that wasn’t working for Carry Nation, she
turned to violence to solve her ways.
• Carry Nation was a temperance reformer, who took her “reforming” to the extreme. Nation is most known for destroying saloons with her hatchet, out of anger. Carry’s anger formed out of her first husband’s alcohol use, and often drunk-ness.
At the time, liquor was illegal in Kansas, and she believed wherever they sold it that it was wrong. In the 1890’s she began her rage on saloons and bars in Kansas. Then, worked to other places in the country, bambarding bars with her hatchet, and other weapons. http://school.eb.com/all/search?query=carry
