An international mountain running relay

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TROFEO VANONI

Trofeo Vanoni started in 1958.

It is named after the economist and politician Ezio Vanoni

Our school is named after him.

WHO WAS EZIO VANONI ? Ezio Vanoni was born

in Morbegno in the province of Sondrio on 3rd August 1903 and died in Rome on 16th February 1956.

He was Minister of Finance (1948-1956).

In 1956 he was awarded the gold medal for civil valor.

WHERE DOES THE RACE TAKE PLACE ?

The race takes place in Morbegno, a small town 6km from our school.

THE MEN’S RACE :

The men’s race takes place over a distance of 7 km with a vertical drop of 500 meters.

The men's race began before the women's race in 1958.

THE WOMEN’S RACE. The female’s race is

5.5 km long with a vertical drop of 300 meters.

The women's race began in 1984.

THE MINIVANONI

The minivanoni takes place in the morning. Organized for the first time in 1978, the national mountain running race is reserved for athletes who are 11-16 years old.

Also one of our class mates, Angelica, participated.

AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

The event is very famous and every year attracts hundreds of athletes from all over Italy and the major European countries (Britain, France, Slovenia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Poland).

SOME WINNERS FROM SLOVENIA :

Slovenia in 2013 won the relay in 1 hour and 34 minutes.

In 2005 Mateja Kosovelj won the female race in 22 minutes and 22 seconds

SOME WINNERS FROM POLAND:

In 2002 Agnieszka Stafa won the famale race in 24minutes and 22 seconds

In 2010 Mariola Sojda won the famale race in 23 minutes and 13 seconds

ITALY

The Italian team C.S Forestale holds the record and has won the biggest number of races .
