HOW TO PREP THE KITS
HOW TO PLAY TOOTHY
The first decision to make is how you’d like to store these task kits. Mine are stored in an Iris® Color Photo & Craft Keeper which can be purchased from Michaels or this link: https://www.michaels.com/iris-color-photo-craft-keeper/10468242.html There are other craft and photo containers (like the one pictured on the cover) but instead are clear and can be found on Amazon or this affiliate link: http://bit.ly/TaskCardOrganizer They can also be stored in the following options:
-plastic baggies-pencil boxes
-baskets-file folders
The container label gets printed and taped to the inside of the container. The cards get printed, matched together (back to back), and then laminated for durability. The Toothy mats can be laminated or kept inside of a sheet protector.
Each partner gets a Toothy mat and dry erase marker. Students will take turns choosing a card. Each student who is playing the game will solve the problem on their Toothy mat or dry erase board. When all who are playing have answered the question, they compare their answers and then turn the card over to check to see if their answer is correct. Those who have a correct answer get to draw a tooth in Toothy’s mouth on their mat. If the student’s answer is incorrect, they do not draw a tooth and those who got the answer correct must explain how they got to the correct answer. Then the next student draws the next card and the process is repeated. The game is over once all 27 cards have been answered. The student with the most teeth in Toothy’s mouth is the winner of the game.
HOW TO COPY When I print the Toothy cards I print a one-sided blackline master of every page and store these in a binder or file folder. Then I put the pages in order for two sided copying.
1 2 3 4 5 6
Once I have them in order (like seen above) I choose the printer setting 1x2 sided. This option may vary with your copy machine. You will notice that there are no card lines for the answer cards to allow for the answer cards and problem cards to line up nicely. You will also notice that the answers are a slightly lighter color. This is done in this way to allow the option of printing on regular white paper without the students being able to see the answers through the paper.
HOW TO STORE The Toothy cards get stored in individual containers. You can choose to print one set of each skill or several sets for each skill. This all depends on how you will use them in your classroom. The Toothy mats can all be stored in a basket or on top of the cases if you
choose to print the generic mats. If you choose to print the skill specific mats, one idea is seen in the picture to the left. Label each folder with the name of the skill and place the Toothy mats in the correct file folder.
