Tool kit for making Carnival T-Shirts

First, talk about Carnivals then choose a theme.

Draw four different T-shirt designs onto the basic templates in your booklets. Choose contrasting styles and shapes for each T-shirt. Think about adding colour, pattern, character or expression.

Preparation When happy with your chosen method, prepare your fabric by folding up newspaper inside the T-shirt to prevent paint soaking through to the other side.

Practise on paper first to

perfect your technique!

Prepare your printing materials by cutting or scoring your designs into them.

DON’T FORGET! If you score a design into foam board or lino, it will print out in reverse.

Apply your design

Coat your roller or sponge with an even supply of paint. If using a roller, roll it in one direction, lift when it gets to the end of the tray and bring it back to the front of the tray to roll again (don’t just roll it back and forth). You’ll have the right consistency when the paint is making a sticky sound.Gently apply paint to the printing block with the roller or sponge or roller, then place it onto the fabric and gently rub or roll to get an even print. You could use a dry roller to help with this. This can be repeated by cleaning the block and changing colour or overlaying/rotating the image to create a pattern.Get creative with different printing techniques to create your unique design!
