Are you alive?

How do you know?

www.planbee.com

Are you breathing?

Are you able to move?

Have you eaten

something today?

Can you feel the carpet?

Have you been to the toilet

today?

If you answered YES

to these questions then you are

alive!

They all need to get energy from food.

They all need to be able to move.

They all need to be able to grow.

They all need to be able to respond to things.

They all need to be able to respire. For humans, this means breathing.

They all need to be able to reproduce. This means making baby animals.

They all need to get rid of waste. For humans, this means going to the toilet.

There are certain things that all animals (including humans) need to be able to do in order to be alive:

Plants are also able to move and grow, even if they can’t get up and walk! They often bend towards the

sunshine so they can get more energy.

Plants are also living things and they have to be able to do all the same things that animals and humans do to

stay alive, even if they do them slightly differently.

Plants need energy but they don’t get their energy from food - they get it from

sunlight.

Plants use their seeds to reproduce and grow new

plants.

All things that are living will eventually die. Leaves on trees will die every year and fall to the ground, and all

plants will eventually die.

Did you know that some trees can live for hundreds of

years?
