GENERAL NOTES
A. A LIMITED PRE-RENOVATION HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED
BY LICENSED ASBESTOS INSPECTORS EXPERIENCED IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF
ASBESTOS AND LEAD PAINT BASED ON THE PROVIDED SCOPE OF WORK FOR
PLANNED RESETS AND REPAIRS OF THE FACILITY. THE PURPOSE OF THIS
SURVEY WAS TO IDENTIFY AND QUANTIFY ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIALS
(ACM) AND LEAD BASED PAINT WITHIN AND ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE
STRUCTURES IN THE AREAS OF PLANNED RESETS OR REPAIRS. THE SURVEY
INCLUDED A VISUAL INSPECTION, SAMPLE COLLECTION, AND SUBSEQUENT
LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES OF MATERIALS SUSPECTED TO CONTAIN
ASBESTOS OR LEAD. SAMPLES WERE COLLECTED AT THIS FACILITY. ACM AND
LEAD PAINT WERE FOUND TO BE LOCATED WITHIN THE AREAS OF THE IDENTIFIED
RENOVATIONS AND WILL REQUIRE ABATEMENT AND PROPER DISPOSAL AS PART
OF THIS PROJECT.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION CONTROL LAWS AND ASSOCIATED AGENCY REGULATION.
G. IF CONTRACTOR ENCOUNTERS ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIALS, LEAD-BASED PAINT, OR OTHER
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS DURING THE SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED IN THIS PROJECT OR AT THIS
FACILITY, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL STOP WORK IMMEDIATELY AND NOTIFY THE CONTRACTING
OFFICER.
H. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BUILD THE PROJECT, ASSEMBLING THE COMPONENTS WITH CAREFUL
ATTENTION TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE STRUCTURE AND AS REQUIRED TO CREATE A
COMPLETED PROJECT THAT IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE STATED DESIGN INTENT. FURTHERMORE,
THE BUILDING SYSTEMS SHALL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
I. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE WORK OF THE VARIOUS SUBCONTRACTORS AND MATERIAL
SUPPLIERS TO ASSURE THE DESIGN INTENT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED.
J. RETAIN NECESSARY FEDERAL, STATE & LOCAL PERMITS AND PERFORM WORK TO COMPLY WITH
APPLICABLE CODES AND ORDINANCES.
K. CONTRACTOR TO COORDINATE ANY PHASING WITH THE CONTRACTING OFFICER, AS REQUIRED. THE
CONSTRUCTION SHALL NOT DISRUPT THE NORMAL FACILITY ACTIVITIES OR ENDANGER ANY OF THE
BUILDING OCCUPANTS.
L. COORDINATE SYSTEM INTERRUPTIONS WITH GOVERNMENT 48-HOURS IN ADVANCE. MINIMIZE NOISE
AND SYSTEMS INTERRUPTIONS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. OUTAGES MORE THAN 2 HOURS WILL BE
CONSIDERED UNACCEPTABLE.

GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE.
G. CLEAN AND PREPARE NEW AND EXISTING CONCRETE FOR ACCEPTANCE OF EITHER "THICKSET" OR "THINSET"

B. CEILINGS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 144 SF AND SURROUNDED BY WALLS

SYSTEM COMPONENTS:
F. UNLESS PERIMETER MEMBERS ARE A STRUCTURAL PART OF AN APPROVED
SYSTEM AND MEET THE STRUCTURAL LOAD CARRYING REQUIREMENTS, WALL

MAINTAINED BETWEEN THE MAIN RUNNER AND CROSS RUNNER ENDS AND THE
PERIMETER MEMBERS ON THE TWO OPPOSITE WALLS.
I. THE TERMINAL END OF EACH CROSS RUNNER AND MAIN RUNNER SHALL BE
SUPPORTED INDEPENDENTLY, A MAXIMUM OF 8 IN FROM EACH WALL OR
CEILING DISCONTINUITY WITH NO. 12 GAUGE WIRE OR APPROVED WALL
SUPPORT (SEE ASTM FIGURE 4).
J. DIRECT CONCEALED SUSPENDED CEILING SYSTEMS SHALL HAVE POSITIVELY
CONNECTED STABILIZER BARS OR MECHANICALLY CONNECTED CROSS
RUNNERS AT A MAXIMUM SPACING OF 60 IN. PERPENDICULAR TO THE MAIN
RUNNERS. STABILIZATION SHALL OCCUR WITHIN 24" OF EACH WALL.
K. THE TERMINAL END OF EACH CROSS RUNNER AND MAIN RUNNER SHALL BE
SUPPORTED INDEPENDENTLY, A MAXIMUM OF 8" FROM EACH WALL OR CEILING
DISCONTINUITY WITH NO. 12-GA WIRE OR APPROVED WALL SUPPORTS
(AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION MUST APPROVE USG AC-M7 SEISMIC
CLIPS OR OTHER MANUFACTURER'S TESTED CLIPS).
SUSPENSION WIRE APPLICATION:
L. SUSPENSION WIRES OF GALVANIZED, SOFT-ANNEALED, MILD WIRE SHALL NOT
BE SMALLER THAN NO. 12 GAUGE SPACED AT 4'-0" ON CENTER ALONG EACH
MAIN RUNNER, UNLESS CALCULATIONS JUSTIFYING THE INCREASED SPACING
OR ALTERNATE MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.
M. EACH VERTICAL WIRE SHALL BE ATTACHED TO THE CEILING SUSPENSION
MEMBER AND TO THE SUPPORT ABOVE, AND EACH WIRE MUST BE WRAPPED
AROUND ITSELF A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) FULL TURNS WITHIN A 3" LENGTH.
CONNECTION DEVICES TO THE SUPPORTING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE
CAPABLE OF CARRYING NOT LESS THAN 90 LB ALLOWABLE LOAD.
N. SUSPENSION WIRES SHALL NOT HANG MORE THAN 1 IN 6 OUT OF PLUMB
UNLESS COUNTERSLOPING WIRES ARE PROVIDED.
O. WIRES SHALL NOT ATTACH TO OR BEND AROUND INTERFERING EQUIPMENT A
TRAPEZE OR EQUIVALENT DEVICE SHALL BE USED WHERE CONSTRUCTIONS
PRECLUDE DIRECT SUSPENSION.
LATERAL FORCE BRACING:
P. HORIZONTAL RESTRAINTS SHALL BE EFFECTED BY FOUR (4) NO. 12 GA WIRES
SECURED TO THE MAIN RUNNER WITHIN TWO (2) INCHES OF THE CROSS
RUNNER INTERSECTION AND SPLAYED NINETY (90) DEGREES FROM EACH
OTHER AT AN ANGLE NOT EXCEEDING FORTY-FIVE (45) DEGREES FROM THE
PLANE OF THE CEILING. A STRUT FASTENED TO THE MAIN RUNNER AT THE
LOCATION OF THE BRACING WIRES SHALL BE EXTENDED TO AND FASTENED TO
THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS SUPPORTING THE ROOF OR FLOOR ABOVE. THE
STRUT SHALL BE ADEQUATE TO RESIST THE VERTICAL COMPONENT INDUCED
BY THE BY THE BRACING WIRES. THESE HORIZONTAL RESTRAINT POINTS SHALL
BE PLACED TWELVE (12) FEET ON CENTER IN BOTH DIRECTIONS WITH THE
FIRST POINT WITHIN SIX (6) FEET FROM EACH WALL.
Q. LATERAL FORCE BRACING MEMBERS SHALL BE SPACED A MINIMUM OF SIX (6)
INCHES FROM ALL HORIZONTAL PIPING OR DUCTWORK THAT IS NOT PROVIDED
WITH BRACING RESTRAINTS FOR HORIZONTAL FORCES.
R. RIGID BRACES THAT HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO LIMIT RELATIVE LATERAL
DEFLECTIONS AT THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT OF THE CEILING GRID TO LESS
THAN 0.25 INCHES ARE PERMITTED TO BE USED IN THE PLACE OF DIAGONAL
SPLAY WIRES.
LIGHT FIXTURE APPLICATION:
S. ALL LIGHTING FIXTURES SHALL BE ATTACHED TO THE SUSPENDED CEILING
SYSTEM BY MECHANICAL MEANS AS SPECIFIED IN THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL
CODE, UNLESS INDEPENDENTLY SUPPORTED. A MINIMUM OF TWO (2)
ATTACHMENT DEVICES ARE REQUIRED FOR EACH FIXTURE. SEE DETAILS &
ASTM E580 DIAGRAMS FOR SUPPLEMENTAL HANGER WIRE REQUIREMENTS.
T. LIGHTING FIXTURES WEIGHING LESS THAN 10 LB SHALL HAVE ONE NO. 12 GA
SAFETY WIRE CONNECTED FROM THE FIXTURE HOUSING TO THE STRUCTURE
ABOVE.
U. LIGHTING FIXTURES WEIGHING GREATER THAN 10 LB. BUT LESS THAN 56 LB.
SHALL HAVE, IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS,
TWO NO. 12 GA HANGAR WIRES CONNECTED FROM THE FIXTURE HOUSING TO
THE STRUCTURE ABOVE THAT ACT AS SAFETY WIRES. IT IS NOT NECESSARY
FOR SAFETY WIRES TO BE TAUT.
V. LIGHTING FIXTURES WEIGHING 56 LB. OR MORE SHALL BE SUPPORTED
DIRECTLY FROM THE STRUCTURE ABOVE BY APPROVED HANGERS.
W. RIGID CONDUIT SHALL NOT BE USED FOR THE ATTACHMENT OF FIXTURES.
SERVICES WITHIN THE CEILING:
X. FLEXIBLE SPRINKLER HOSE FITTINGS, CEILING-MOUNTED AIR TERMINALS OR
OTHER SERVICES WEIGHING LESS THAN 20 LB. SHALL BE POSITIVELY

THE MAIN SUPPLY. REMOVE FIXTURE VENT PIPING BACK TO ABOVE THE CEILING
AND TEMPORARILY CAP FOR FUTURE CONNECTION.
2. REMOVE EXISTING WALL MOUNTED LAVATORY AND ASSOCIATED TRIM. REMOVE
EXISTING HOT AND COLD WATER BACK TO MAIN SUPPLIES ABOVE CEILING. REMOVE
FIXTURE WASTE TO BELOW FLOOR AND CAP WASTE CONNECTION. REMOVE
FIXTURE VENT PIPING BACK TO MAIN VENT PIPING ABOVE THE CEILING AND CAP.
3. REMOVE EXISTING WALL MOUNTED LAVATORY AND ASSOCIATED TRIM. EXISTING
HOT & COLD WATER SUPPLY STUB-OUTS AND EXISTING WASTE/VENT CONNECTION
STUB-OUT TO REMAIN FOR FUTURE CONNECTION TO NEW FIXTURE.
4. REMOVE EXISTING WALL MOUNTED URINAL AND ASSOCIATED TRIM. EXISTING
WATER SUPPLY STUB-OUT AND EXISTING WASTE/VENT CONNECTION STUB-OUT TO
REMAIN FOR FUTURE CONNECTION TO NEW FIXTURE.
5. REMOVE EXISTING FLOOR DRAIN. TEMPORARILY CAP WASTE CONNECTION FOR
NEW FLOOR DRAIN CONNECTION. CAP TRAP PRIMER PIPING BELOW FLOOR.
6. REMOVE EXISTING HOSE BIBB. REMOVE WATER SUPPLY BACK TO ABOVE CEILING
AND CAP.
7. CONNECT 1-1/2"C TO EXISTING COLD WATER SUPPLY MAIN ABOVE CEILING. FIELD
VERIFY LOCATION OF EXISTING COLD WATER SUPPLY MAIN ABOVE CEILING PRIOR
