Hey guys, welcome to the first ever issue of TTL – The online showcase for Newport University’s Fashion & Advertising photography students, ran solely by and for first year Ba(Hons)Photography for Fashion and Advertising students. The idea for this magazine began a short while back as a tiny seed in the mind of PFA’s Sophie Youlden and has gone on to provide you all with the pretty outstanding book of images you’ll see before you! The course is relatively big so it’s practically impossible for everyone to see everyone else’s work during seminars and presentations etc. TTL was designed to give students the chance to present their work to one another through a relevant means in an attempt to build confidence, a sense of community and a familiarity with showcasing their work. At the same time it gives others a chance to see the standard of work that first year PFA are producing, definitely a magazine to be proud of! I’ll start by giving Sophie Youlden a giant pat on the back as without her pushing both the course reps and Chesney, this magazine probably wouldn’t even be in motion yet. And an equally as big hand is owed to magazine designer Callum Bird as without his web skills, you’d probably be looking at a photocopy of a ‘magazine’ designed on MS publisher. We’d also like to thank those of you who submitted your pictures to be published, without you guys there wouldn’t be a magazine! As a first issue we thought we’d keep it clean and simple. The theme chosen was Black & white! PFA students recently completed a brief in which we were required to shoot a b&w fashion editorial campaign; this could be on 35mm film or using digital. The brief received arguably the most positive response of any we’ve had so far this year and this enthusiasm can quite clearly be seen in the images you’re about to see! Thank you for taking the time to view our work, all feedback is welcome via the official TTL facebook page!
