Shale rocks are sedimentary rocks which were formed from clay that is compacted together by pressure.

Shale is used to make bricks.

Some baseball diamonds useshale rocks.

Shale is used for pathways, driveways, and landscaping, too.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock which was formed from the mineral calcite which came from seas and lakes that dried up and from sea animal shells.

Limestone is used in concrete.

Limestone is used for buildings.

Limestone is used in toothpaste, antacids and face powder, too.

Granite is an Igneous RockGranite

Granite rocks are igneous rocks which were formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma that were trapped beneath the earth's surface.

Granite is used for buildings. Georgia’s capitol is made of Georgia

granite.

Stone Mountain is made of granite.

Monuments and household items are made of granite.

Pumice is an Igneous RockPumice

Pumice rocks are igneous rocks which were formed when lava cooled quickly above ground. This rock is so light, that many pumice rocks will actually float in water.

Because this rock is so light, it is often used as a decorative landscape stone.

Ground to a powder, it is used as an abrasive in polish compounds and in Lava© soap.

Marble is a metamorphic rock that is formed when limestone is changed.

Marble comes in many colors.

Marble is used to make buildings.

Statues and household items are also made from marble.

Slate is a metamorphic rock that is formed when shale had low heat and a little pressure on it. 

Slate can be any color but is mostly found in gray or black.  When it is broken, it splits into layers. 

Slate is used to make roofs on houses.

Slate is used for stepping stones and floors.

Slate was also used for chalkboards and pool tables.
