Call to Worship
Prayer of Adoration
GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO GOD_________________
*Hymn of Praise #66 “To God Be the Glory” Deacons will collect prayer requests
*Prayer of Confession Gracious God, we confess to You not only the inadequacy of
our faith, but also its inability to stir us to the good works You have
ordained for us to do. Too much of our faith is still in our heads, and
has yet to reach our hearts. Please forgive us and enable us to trust in
You at the center of our being. Grant that others may be moved by
the faith we express in deeds, to seek the transforming power trusting
in Christ brings to all who turn to Him. In His name we pray. Amen.
*Assurance of God’s Forgiveness *Congregational Response Hymn #145 Glory be to God, Creator, glory be to God the Son, Glory be
to God the Spirit, known as three yet God the One. As it was in the
beginning, it is now and so shall be in a world without an ending,
glory through eternity. Holy, holy God Almighty, holy holy Prince of
Peace, holy, holy Wind of Presence, holy, holy, holy.
Time with the Children
Anthem
Joys and Concerns
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer …Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Offering our Gifts to God
Offertory
*Doxology Hymn # 34 Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
*Prayer of Dedication
*Hymn #442 “Tis So Sweet”
GOD’S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED______________ Scripture James 2:14-26 (p. 1217)
Sermon “Compassion in Action” *Affirmation of Faith The Heidelberg Catechism Pastor: Since we are redeemed from our sin and its wretched
consequences by grace through Christ without any merit of our own, why
must we do good works?
People: Because just as Christ has redeemed us with His blood He
also renews us through His Holy Spirit according to His own image,
so that with our whole life we may show ourselves grateful to God
for His goodness and that He may be glorified through us; and
further, so that we ourselves may be assured of our faith by its fruits,
and by our reverent behavior may win our neighbors to Christ. GO IN GOD’S NAME_________________________________
*Hymn #712 “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing”
*Benediction
*Postlude *All are invited to stand

Pastor Karl has asked me to continue our summer series of sermons based on
the Letter of James. This week’s passage challenges us to think about what
it means to have a faith which saves us. May our time together around God’s
Word help us to see more clearly what it means for us to be saved and what
kind of faith it takes to save us. So I invite you to listen carefully for that
Word which the Holy Spirit would speak to your heart this day, for the
Apostle Paul reminds us that faith comes from hearing the Word and allowing
that Word to transform our lives. - Pastor Bob
