HISTORY OF THE UN The UN was formed in 1945 after
WWII. The UN was formed too replace the
failed League of Nations organization. The UN was formed to elaborate
instruments for settling crises peacefully, preventing wars and codifying rules of warfare.
PURPOSE OF THE UN The purpose of the UN is to prevent war promote
human rights all around the world, justice, and improve living conditions of other countries.
The main purposes of the UN are to keep peace in the world, develop friendly relationships, help improve nations, and to be a centre to achieve the goals planned.
INSIDE THE UN The current Secretary-General of the UN
is Ban Ki-moon. 193 countries are members of the UN The UN headquarters is located in New
York. The four major organizations of the UN
are General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, and the Security Council
GENERAL ASSEMBLY The General assembly
makes all the decisions of new admission, peace and security, and budgetary.
Representatives from each of the countries in the UN are in the general assembly.
Each representative gets 1 vote.
The UN makes decisions by two thirds of the votes, each country gets a vote.
SECURITY COUNCIL The five permanent
members of the security council are China, Russia, England, France, and the United States.
15 countries sit on the security council.
The security council makes decisions based on war to keep the peace.
ICJ The international court of justice is
located in Hague in the Netherlands. The international court of justice settles
legal disputes between states.
UNDP The UNDP is a organization
within the UN that helps strengthen the economy of countries in crisis.
The UNDP helps countries that have suffered from natural disasters, like after two years in Haiti they helped reconstruct economies
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION providing leadership
on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
UNICEF UNICEF stands for United Nations
Children’s fund. UNICEF was created to prevent the
deaths of little kids after WWII. UNICEF and its partners lead global
efforts to end preventable child deaths.
SUMMARY The purpose of the UN is to promote
world peace around the world. The different organizations of the UN all focus on a part of keeping the peace, in different parts of the world. Inside the General assembly there are 193 countries, and each country gets one vote. In the International Court of Justice there are 15 countries and 5 permanent security council members.
