The towering personality and conveyor of the message of Kerbala,

Sayyida Zainab binte Ali came into this world on the 5th Jamadi Al Awwal 5A.H,

just 5 years after the migration to Madinah. Born into the family of purity and infallibility, she was the granddaughter of our Holy Prophet and Bibi Khadija; the daughter of Bibi Fatema and Imam Ali; sister of Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein and aunt of our 4th Imam Zainul

Abideen (A.S.).

The Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali A.S. did not name any of his children. He always

deferred this honour to the Holy Prophet, who in turn turned to Allah for inspiration on the

children's names. Narrations relate that, at the birth of this daughter, the angel Jibraeel

descended to the Earth and instructed the Prophet to name her

‘Zainab’ (the ornament of her father) and she was known as such by Allah in the

Heavens and on Earth.

Zainab had all her mothers' qualities. She inherited her oratory eloquence from her father. She got her patience from her

older brother Imam al-Hasan and self-control from the third Imam, al-Husain. Even though she was not infallible, she was spiritually perfect, unlike any mortal

being. She reached a level that is so perfect she could be compared to a Wali.

(Friend of Allah)

Numerous personalities asked for her hand when the time for marriage came.

She accepted the offer from Abdullah bin. Ja’far bin. Abi Talib, the son of Ja’far al-Tayyar. This blessed union saw the birth

of four children, Awn, Muhammad, Ali and daughter Umm al-Kulthum. History is witness to the role of the children in the event of Kerbala and their sacrifices for

the defense of Islam.
