This is considered the very first political cartoon in America’s history. It first appeared in the Pennsylvania Gazette on the May 9,1754, and was meant to indicate that if the colonies did not unite to stand up to the unfair laws of the British government, then the colonies would not be strong enough to make a difference and would fail at gaining more

rights. It later became an encouraging flag during the Revolutionary War for

the thirteen colonies to stay united in an effort to claim total independence from England.
