• Started in 1945 in Mumbai, India.

• Original production was on locomotives.

• 1954– launched its first

automobile.

• Mercedes and Tata teamed up to create a truck line.– First major business

deal with another firm.

• The Tata Nano uses plastics and adhesives rather than welding.

• introducing the car with an artificially low price through govt-subsidies and tax-breaks, or

• using vertical-integration, or• partially using inexpensive polymers or

biodegradable plastics instead of a full metal-body.

• It has no AC, no power steering, no power windows, no power bells and whistles.

POST SALE ISSUE

• In 2010 , 2 Tata Nano cars caught fire.

• In March, 2010 the car was being driven from the dealership to the home of its owner in Mumbai.

• In April, 2010 it was being driven to a dealership in Gujarat’s Anand district.

• 3 cases where Tata Nano's steering wheel assembly produced black smoke.
