“Paul’s Mission”

Series 3 - God Saves His People

I. Paul, a Prisoner Imprisonment Prophesied

Acts 9:15-16 (NLT) 15  But the Lord said, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. 16

And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.” Acts 21:4,10-14Ready not only to be jailed but to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus

2 Corinthians 11:23-27 (NLT) 23  Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. 24  Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. 25  Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26  I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27  I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

Here lies…The Apostle Paul

His death was his final offering

He fought the good fightHe finished the race

He kept the faithHe has obtained the rewardReserved for him in heaven

III. Our Challenge 2 Timothy 1:9-10

God saved usCalled us to live a holy lifeHis plan from the beginningHe broke the power of deathHe illuminated the way to life through the good news

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT) 1  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2  We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3  Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
