Concept

Concept: The health care resort utilizes a central information center to control operations between all programs. This is reflected in the layout through an integration of program and circulation. Horizontal stacking of the building maximizes views and privacy for patrons, and creates opportunities for further utilization for outdoor spaces.

Massing

Public vs. Private & Access to Views

Horizontal Stacking

Horizontal Stacking: Stacking the program begins to address the primary parameters. A vertical separation of public and guest space provides privacy for recovering guests, and maintains views of the ocean. Overhangs shade outdoor areas and reduce heat gain on the facade. Vertical circulation connects to the central information center.

Sustainibility Considerations

Passive Ventilation:

• Guest tower is oriented to allow trade winds to ventilate rooms

• Air cirulates through clerestory openings on corridor side of guest rooms and out balcony side

Solar Considerations:

• Building oriented to reduce so-lar gain on facade of tower

• Overhangs provide shading
