Happy Fall!
The start of this fall season has brought a few changes to the Gypsum Mills Office. As you may
know, I have stepped into the Community Manager position and a new Assistant Community man-
ager has been hired. I would like to take the time to introduce Kasie West as the new Assistant
Community Manager of Gypsum Mills. I am very excited to work alongside Kasie. I believe she will
be a great addition to this community and I can’t wait for you all to see what she can do.
Although I am very sad to see Tanice go, I am grateful to have worked along side her and to have
helped her create the relationship between residents and management that we have today. I value
this relationship and understand the importance of keeping it.
Some exciting news! On Saturday October 20th and Sunday October 21st, Horizon will be hosting
their first ever home show at Gypsum Mills since purchasing the property in 2015. This home show
will showcase the two new homes that we have brought into the community this past year; 6269
Murphy Dr. and 6351 Roberts Dr. We are very excited to draw new people into this quickly growing
community.
This month’s Local Loyalty Program Members:
• Advent Automotive
• Budget Blinds
• Cork 49
• Highline Moving & Storage
• India House
• Jack ‘n Jill Childcare
• Mozzeroni’s

To view the Local Loyalty advertisements, they will be posted on the mail house, in the office, and
the Scoop Online. We are very pleased with how this program has been working out and are
constantly getting new businesses to join. October is our biggest month yet! Just remember to show
your Gypsum Mills ID Card for a discount.
Sincerely,
Autumn Lux

From our board president
Hello Gypsum Mills Neighbors,
It is early autumn and I write this with the windows open and can feel that fall chill in the air. 54
degrees is a welcome change to the humidity and high temperatures we were experiencing a few
short weeks ago! I am looking forward to the fall foliage and apple cider. It doesn’t bring me great
joy knowing snow is not far off, but I will still take the snow over the torment of a hurricane. I am
sure some of our neighbors have family and friends in the North Carolina area. I hope they are all
safe and came out of Hurricane Florence with relatively minor damages. My mother always used
to say that we should never cry over anything that can be replaced with money. That sentiment
always puts material loss into perspective for me. It doesn’t take the sting away of losing some-
thing of value, but it does reframe the value of those things that cannot be replaced.
I am happy to share with you that Gypsum Mills is now under new community leadership. The
roles of Community Manager and Assistant Community Manager were assumed by Autumn Lux
and Kasie West, respectively, effective September 20th. I know we welcome them to our communi-
ty and extend our congratulations to them both on their new positions. With the addition of
Autumn and Kasie, we said goodbye to Tanice Hammond. Tanice served as our Community
Manager for a little over a year. We were sad to see Tanice go, but thrilled for her and her family
as her husband accepted employment in Georgia, requiring them to relocate. We wish her and her
family the very best and thank her for her service to our Gypsum Mills community.
Our first Volunteer Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, October 4th at 6:00 pm at the
Community Center. This is the first of what I hope will be an annual event. I have said it before,
but it’s worth saying again; our community is the enjoyable and welcoming place it is because of
the residents who share their time and talents with their neighbors. Many might ask what they
could possibly have to offer our community. When posed with that question I respond with the
adage of many hands make for light work. I hope you consider volunteering in our community in
whatever capacity you may find enjoyable. Volunteering is also a great way to connect with your
neighbors, form lasting friendships and enhance your quality of life. If you weren’t a volunteer in
our community over the last year, I hope you will consider changing that in the year to come.
As I think about service, I’m reminded of something my youngest daughter shared with me that
comes from the wisdom of Oprah Winfrey. My youngest daughter, Anne Margaret, is a huge Oprah
Winfrey disciple. I don’t have the memory for Oprah’s exact quotes that Anne Margaret does, but
the essence of Oprah’s thoughts on service encourage us to find a way to offer our gifts and talents
to the world in the form of service. She asserts that is the secret to her success; she utilizes her
gifts and her platform in the form of service to others. I encourage you to keep that thought close
as you consider using your gifts and talents in service to our community. I guarantee you will
receive more than you give.
Fondly,
Hugh N. Crowley President,
Gypsum Mills Cooperative Board of Directors

Community news And More
The Caregiver By Yvonne L. Broman
Things don’t seem the same anymore He’s forgotten what he knew before
My days are filled doing the things he used to do How long will it be before he forgets you
I question myself, can I be that strong
To carry the whole load, seems so wrong Thinking of the love we used to share
Now I’m loving you and it seems you’re not there
At night when I try to go to sleep I think of all the appointments I must keep
And all the jobs that I must do “He” is here, but where are you
I never thought my days would come to this
Without a tender hug or even a kiss In the coming years, I pray I can deliver
Knowing in my heart, I’ll only become the caregiver

Golf Banquet Pictures
Thank you
Joanne Lucas
for the photos!
Celebrating the year of the golf clubs for both Mon-
day morning and Thursday evening leagues. There
were many drawings of golf gifts and also prize
money for final placements. Bob & Paula were the
lead directors and did a spectacular job. The food
was scrumptious too from Otto Tomoto's. A bit of
humor seeing that Dean Pearce earned the Master's
title for Gypsum Mills Golf League and the
champion on both leagues and that's is why he got
the green sweater. Bob did sing a humorous song
with funny lyrics pertaining to golf. He was initially
introduced as a friend from Arizona. It was a com-
plete surprise when he came out dressed like that
with his little guitar. Also, that evening Frank
Legrett shared many old jokes and made us all
chuckle.

We need you!
It is fall and Benincasa is preparing for its 23rd year of providing comfort care to our terminally ill loved ones. Although we depend on donations, grants and our annual fundraisers to keep our house operating, we also cannot care for our residents without the support of our team of compassionate and dedicated volunteer caregivers. With fall approaching we always welcome the addition of new folks that are interested in serving our residents and giving back to some won-derful people who need our help. Benincasa provides comfort care for up to two residents at a time and volunteers offer assistance through companionship, lending an ear, light household help and running errands. Volunteers fill 4 hours shifts once a week or once a month, whatever you can provide, between the hours of 7am and 11pm. You are paired up with another volunteer at all times.
Education and training is provided and nurses oversee and mentor each volunteer as they provide care in a family like setting.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about how can you can become a volunteer, please stop by for a cup of coffee or call me, Mary Fazio, directly at 766-3667. You can really make a difference!
Hey, Retirees! Looking for extra part time income? Keep
reading!
I live here in Gypsum Mills and I work for Ontario ARC. I manage 2 group homes. If you are
looking for part time employment, I am looking for you! We have 16 homes in the county,
with 3 in this immediate vicinity. We have an urgent need for reliable staff! As a Program
Substitute, you have the choice of what hours you work. As a part time Skills Instructor, you
would have set shifts. All training is paid time, and covers almost anything you would ever
need to know while working! If you are interested in finding out more, I would be glad to sit
down and talk with you about our Agency. My name is Dee Prong and my number is 315-879-
3990. If you call and I do not answer, I am probably in a meeting or at a medical appointment
with one of my residents. Please leave your name and number and that you are calling in re-
gards to this notice. I will get back to you as soon as possible!
