The word Renaissance means “rebirth.”

What was being reborn during this time?

A love of education & art.

The Renaissance

During the Middle Ages, all of the focus was on

the Church.

The Renaissance revived a love for the art and

learning of the ancient Greeks and Romans.

art) were called the humanities.

People’s newfound interest in the humanities led them

to respect those who could write or speak well. As a

result, talented writers & artists won great fame.

Artists of the Italian Renaissance were also

inspired by the classical works ( the work of

ancient Greeks & Romans).

Inspiration was not hard to find because

Roman ruins still stood in Italy & classical

statues were on display throughout Italy.

Vatican.
