Introit: I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say (NEH 349)
Collect: Eternal God,
give us insight
to discern your will for us,
to give up what harms us,
and to seek the perfection we are promised
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 55.1-9
A reading from the prophecy of Isaiah.
The Lord says this:
Everyone who thirsts,
come to the waters;
and you that have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without price.
Why do you spend your money for that
which is not bread,
and your labour for that which does not
satisfy?
Listen carefully to me,and eat what is good,
and delight yourselves in rich food.
Incline your ear, and come to me;
listen, so that you may live.
I will make with you an everlasting
covenant,
my steadfast, sure love for David.
See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.
See, you shall call nations that you do not
know,
and nations that do not know you shall
run to you,
because of the Lord your God, the Holy
One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
Seek the Lord while he may be found,
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake their way,
and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may
have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will abundantly
pardon.
Collect and Readings
3
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
New Testament Reading: 1 Corinthians 10.1-13
A reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and
sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all
were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in
the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and
all drank the same spiritual drink. For they
drank from the spiritual rock that followed
them, and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless,
God was not pleased with most of them, and
they were struck down in the wilderness.
Now these things occurred as examples for us,
so that we might not desire evil as they did. Do
not become idolaters as some of them did; as it
is written, ‘The people sat down to eat and
drink, and they rose up to play.’ We must not
indulge in sexual immorality as some of them
did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single
day. We must not put Christ to the test, as
some of them did, and were destroyed by ser-
pents. And do not complain as some of them
did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
These things happened to them to serve as an
example, and they were written down to in-
struct us, on whom the ends of the ages have
come. So if you think you are standing, watch
out that you do not fall. No testing has overtak-
en you that is not common to everyone. God is
faithful, and he will not let you be tested be-
yond your strength, but with the testing he will
also provide the way out so that you may be
able to endure it.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
Gradual: Psalm 63.1-9
Choir: My soul is athirst for you as in a dry
and thirsty land
All: My soul is athirst for you as in a
dry and thirsty land
4
1 O God, you are my God; eagerly I seek
you; my soul is athirst for you. My flesh
also faints for you, as in a dry and thirsty
land where there is no water. So would
I gaze upon you in your holy place, that I
might behold your power and your
glory.
All: My soul is athirst for you as in a dry
and thirsty land
2 Your loving-kindness is better than life
itself and so my lips shall praise you. I
will bless you as long as I live and lift up
my hands in your name. My soul shall be
satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise you with
joyful lips.
All: My soul is athirst for you as in a dry
and thirsty land
3 When I remember you upon my bed
and meditate on you in the watches of
the night. For you have been my helper
and under the shadow of your wings will
I rejoice. My soul clings to you; your
right hand shall hold me fast.
All: My soul is athirst for you as in a dry
and thirsty land
Gospel Reading: Luke 13.1-9
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ according to Luke. All Glory to you, O Lord.
There were some present who told Jesus
about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had
mingled with their sacrifices. He asked them,
‘Do you think that because these Galileans
suffered in this way they were worse sinners
than all other Galileans? No, I tell you; but
unless you repent, you will all perish as they
did. Or those eighteen who were killed
when the tower of Siloam fell on them - do
you think that they were worse offenders
than all the others living in Jerusalem? No, I
tell you; but unless you repent, you will all
perish just as they did.’
Then he told this parable: ‘A man had a fig
tree planted in his vineyard; and he came
looking for fruit on it and found none. So he
said to the gardener, “See here! For three
years I have come looking for fruit on this fig
tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why
5
should it be wasting the soil?” He replied, “Sir,
let it alone for one more year, until I dig
around it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit
next year, well and good; but if not, you can
cut it down.”’
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All Praise to you, O Christ.
Offertory Hymn O For A Closer Walk (NEH 414)
Communion Anthem: Christ Be Beside Me (Archer)
Communion Hymn: As the deer pants for the water,
so my soul longs after you.
You alone are my heart's desire
and I long to worship you
You alone are my strength, my shield,
to you alone will my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart’s desire
and I long to worship you.
I want you more than gold or silver,
only you can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver
and the apple of my eye.
You're my friend and you are my brother,
even though you are a king.
I love you more than any other,
so much more than anything. (CAHON 45)
Post Communion Prayer: Merciful Lord,
grant your people grace to withstand the
temptations
of the world, the flesh and the devil,
and with pure hearts and minds to follow you,
the only God;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Dismissal: Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken (NEH 362)

Lent: making a difference
Lent Course - Pilgrims This year we are studying the Command-
ments, one group on Tuesday night and one
on Wednesday afternoon.
In the second week we talked about the im-
portance of reverence and worship for God,
and the danger of making idols of what we
love.
“God does not need golden cups, but he does
need golden hearts.” John Chrysostum
Next we will discuss the need for Sabbath
and rest in the rhythm of our loves..
For more info contact Mtr Wilma.
Pilgrims on a journey On Saturday 12th March from 11 am until 4 pm we will be hosting a Lent quiet day. The
theme of the day will be “Pilgrims on a jour-
ney”. The day will consist of a series of
themed reflections, prayer stations, a Eucha-
rist and quiet individual prayer time to ena-
ble us to journey together through Lent to-
wards the cross.
Our regular Lent lunch will be available for
those who wish to partake and this can be
taken in the narthex with others sharing
lunch, or in silence as part of your quiet
time.
Please sign the sheet on the notice board in
the narthex BEFORE 10:30 ON SUN-
DAY 6TH MARCH to indicate if you wish
to attend. We need a minimum of 10 people
in order to be able to run the day.
Further information from Fr. Iain
Daily Prayer Weekly prayer sheets will be available from
today for you to use at some point during
the day. Why not take this on as part of
your Lenten discipline? Taking something on
may be as good as giving something up!

Lent lunch 4 Bishop’s Lent Call Every Wednesday, 1pm, and Saturday in Lent,
12.1.30pm: soup, bread, cheese, fruit; suggest-
ed donation £5. All money goes to Bishop of Southwark’s Lent Call.
If you are unable to attend a Lent lunch, you
can always make some Money Jam for the
Bishop’s Lent Call. Recipe on page 10.
Reconciliation & spiritual care During the season of Lent you may want to
take time to reflect on your life, on a particular
situation or just take the opportunity to talk
about matters of faith. Please contact one of
the clergy to make an appointment.
‘Christianity after Church’ Members of our own congregation talk about
what it means to be a Christian and what they
do after leaving church services to continue
being a follower of Jesus.
Come and be surprised: Sundays at 6.30pm.
Lent actions Some people are good at quiet reflection or
contemplation, some prefer to work and pray
at the same time, as Benedictines would. If you
belong to the second group, you might like to
come and work in the church gardens as part
of your Lenten journey. Saturday 5 March
10am-12noon.
About the Bishop’s Lent Call The theme for the 2016 Lent Call is ‘Caring
for the Whole Person’. We have selected pro-
jects from the Holy Land, some of which will
be visited by the pilgrims on the Diocesan Pil-
grimage which takes place during Lent 2016.
We have also included projects from Zimba-
bwe and this Diocese which seek to look at
caring for the whole person, including educa-
tion, healthcare and employment. Alongside
our giving is also a call to prayer for these pro-jects and the needs they address. More infor-
mation about the projects on the pillars in the
Narthex.

Come, all who are thirsty
says Jesus, our Lord,
come, all who are weak,

that I shall give.
Dip your hands in the stream,
refresh body and soul,
drink from it,
depend on it,
for this water
will never run dry.
