Lent is the season in which we remember Jesus fasting in the desert, and his great sacrifice for our benefit. It is traditionally a time of preparation for Baptism or inclusion in the church. Lent (which means ‘spring’ or ‘a lengthening of days’) begins with Ash Wednesday and ends Easter Sunday. During this 40 day period (excluding Sundays) it is traditional to ‘give up’ something meaningful in order to understand Jesus’ time of fasting and temptation. It is also a time when many people take up a particular discipline – extra prayer time, a Bible study, or other activity that draws us closer to God. This year, we have talked about putting on one of the Fruits of the Spirit as a Lenten discipline. “The Fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithful-ness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23. You are invited to join us as we begin this season of Lent and move intentionally toward the Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday.
Please come to our 2nd Lenten program on Sunday, March 4, @ 5pm. We will have dinner followed by a prayer service for our schools. The Callans have volunteered to lead the second meal team. They ask that you bring a dessert to share. Our first program was a great success. We had over 25 First Responders join us for dinner. Thanks to Anna Arendell and Mary Smith for leading that meal team. Our 3rd event is set for Sunday, March 25, at 5 pm. We need one more person to join Jo Nell Parker on the meal team. Please contact Donna Tate at 832.385.6166 if you can help.

Vision
Grace Episcopal Church seeks to deepen relationships with God, bring
individuals together into a family that builds up one another in love and support, and actively serve our
neighbors and community. Mission
In this family of faith God brings together individuals in all stages of
their spiritual life to form an inclusive family. As a family, we encourage
growth in relationships with God, others, ourselves, and the creation, in that we:
Practice invitation to God’s table,
Welcome and incorporate those who come,
Work together to worship the Lord in powerful liturgy,
Challenge, encourage and teach one another, and
Build one another up for ministry in and beyond the church.
Our Numbers:

From The Rector… To my Grace Church family, We are well into Lent. One of the things that I have noticed about our lessons during Lent is that they revolve around Covenant. On Lent I, we heard about God’s covenant with Noah and how God would use the rainbow in the sky as His reminder that He would never again destroy all life by flood. On Lent II, we heard about the covenant with Abraham, where God changed his name and promised that he would be the father of nations and that kings would arise from him. In the Sundays in March we will hear about God’s covenant with Moses and the Israelites and the giving of the Ten Commandments. We will also hear about God making a way for people who have been bitten by snakes to be healed by viewing the bronze serpent lifted up in the desert. Jesus also uses that image and the analogy to his being lifted up on the cross as healing for sinners. We also will hear about the new covenant that is being prepared when God will “forgive our iniquity and remember our sin no more.” We are all the Lord’s beloved and we are all heirs to the kingdom, but we are never to behave as if we ‘have it made.’ The Lord calls on us to be ambassadors for heaven and in covenant with God, and we can’t do that if we spend out time letting everyone know how good we are. Jesus calls us to servanthood in our ministry. I’ve been asked to give a Lenten talk at another church this year. The theme for their series is “The question is not ‘What do you believe, but what do you believe that makes a difference?’” What do we believe that makes a difference, in our own life and in the life of others? How do we show the world our beliefs through our actions and through our conversation? I challenge each of you to find at least one thing that you have done each day that makes a difference to someone, for Jesus tells us “what you have done for one of the least, you have done to me.” It can be something as simple as sending a card to someone, or calling a sick friend, or letting a harried driver into a traffic lane, or paying for the meal of the person behind you in the drive-thru lane, or smiling at the over-worked checker at the grocery store. What can you, out of your love for Jesus, do today to make someone else’s day just a little brighter? Blessings, Nan+

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEEDED!
General Convention is coming and The Episcopal Church wants YOU!!! The Diocese of Texas is asking that each church send at least 13 volunteers for General Convention this summer in Austin. There are a number of volunteer positions - some require mobility, others do not. Some require special knowledge, such as technology positions. General convention will be at the Austin Convention Center from Thursday, July 5, through Friday, July 13. A shift may be as short as 3 hours or as long as 5 hours. Volun-teering for a shift gives you free admittance to all activities that day. You may sign up for one shift on one day, or for several shifts over several days. Volunteer positions for set up start June 29. When you go to the volunteer page listed below, there will be links that tell you what each position involves. Other links will take you to a page where you can select the position you want and the time you want. If there are time slots or days missing, that means the required number of volunteers has already been reached.
To sign up go to the volunteer website: https://79genconvepiscopalchurch2018volreg.my-trs.com
