GOD LOVES
A CHEERFUL GIVER
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
GOD LOVES
A CHEERFUL GIVER
The one who serves God willingly is heard; his petition reaches the heavens.
W as it a coincidence that my 500-mile pilgrimage along the Camino Francés began on May 30th, the Feast of the Ascension?
That day I walked up the Pyrenees, not unlike the apostles who came to the Mount of Olives, where Jesus ascended into Heaven to be with God. I came to the Camino to be with God. For the next 34 days, daily encounters with the divine ensued. Evening pilgrim masses took place in ermitas (small vil-lage churches), or in ornate cathedrals in the cities which blessed people of all ages from all over the world set out on foot in search of a spiritual awakening in gratitude and reflection for the physical challenge. Friendships were forged over café con leche and tortilla española. Foot reme-dies and tips for lightening one's pack were exchanged. Ears were lent as sto-ries were shared and hearts were opened. Three months after arriving in Santiago, the Camino lives in me, in more ways than I know. I walk without a destination and I listen. I have realized that we are all on the Camino and everyone's Camino is different. Ann Gorman
