the first time I am happy to do a practice run in advance. Just contact me to arrange a time to try.
You can use any internet enabled device, such as mobil phone, table, laptop or PC.

From the Membership Committee
So it’s a goodbye to Easter 2020 and all that scrumptious chocolate and hot cross buns and hello to how can I possibly
get rid of all this extra weight! Looks like Teddy (our furry grandchild) and I are going for some long walks in Morialta
Park while ensuring we keep our physical distancing from other walkers of course.
Last Tuesday night the membership committee provided their report to Board and noted that while most of the
strategic actions were still on hold, we are looking forward to presenting the outcomes of the completed Club
membership survey to you all when we finally resume our face to face meetings in 2020. We are excited to note also
that we continue to have membership queries from interested individuals within our general community so look
forward to growing our membership numbers as a result.
Members who joined us for the Zoom meeting on Wednesday night shared their stories of how they are coping and
all seem to be ok. There were a number of apologies so looking forward to seeing them on screen this coming week.
Heartfelt thanks this week to Graeme and Vicky Packer for their response of a generous donation of a beautiful quilt
to be given to our midwifery student Nancy Geregl.
Keep Well and keep exercising!

Local Community support
The Uniting Communities Eastern Services Branch operates an “Emergency Relief” program enabling people
assessed on low incomes and in need of practical assistance to have access to support in the way of food parcels or
food vouchers. Many of the food items in the food parcels are made up from donations of those items by various
churches and other organizations. Monetary donations are also received.
Since the commencement of the Covid-19 epidemic, many people/families within our community have suffered a
reduction or a total loss of their income due to restrictions put in place, resulting in the number of people seeking
assistance increasing dramatically.
At the Club’s last Board meeting held on 14 April 2020, a proposal was put forward to provide some assistance to the
local community by making a donation to the Uniting Communities Eastern Services Branch. After discussion it was
agreed to donate $1,000.00 to the Emergency Relief program with specific instructions that the money be used for
the purchase of Coles food vouchers. These vouchers will enable the recipients to select food items of their choice
from Coles.
Other ways that the Club can assist the local community was discussed and it was agreed that this would
be investigated further.
In addition, if a Club Member wishes to make a personal donation, this can be paid into the Club’s bank
account and the Club’s treasurer will ensure that the money is passed on accordingly. A receipt for any
donations can be issued.

Vanuatu Ravaged by Cyclone Harold
On April 6th Cyclone Harold made landfall in Vanuatu as a Category 5 cyclone, bringing devastation to the northern provinces. The provinces of Sanma, Malampa, Torba and Penama are most affected. It is estimated that up to 90% of buildings and houses in Sanma are either damaged or destroyed. Communications are still down in most areas and, coupled with the remote nature of many communities, the full extent of the damage or casualties is still unclear. 160,000 people are thought to be affected. Vanuatu is mercifully COVID-19-free and the government would like to keep it that way. As such, we are unable to send in a Response Team. Our Operations team have been working tirelessly to find a way to assist the people of Vanuatu, working with the National Disaster Management Office and locally based NGO's
FACTS ABOUT CYCLONE HAROLD 🌀

There is a shortage of emergency shelter items in Vanuatu and in-country partners are turning to Shelter Cluster partners for assistance
Although the COVID-19 pandemic is restricting direct SRT access, ShelterBox has identified a potential partner in CARE Vanuatu
Based on the needs assessment, we are looking at providing IFRC spec Shelter Kits (tarps, tools and fixings) plus additional IFRC spec tarps and rope; solar lights. The caseload would be 3000 households
If you have recently donated, please accept my thanks on behalf of the families you have helped.
Your support is CHANGING LIVES!
