The presentation will be on a project Alan Auld Engineering assisted on, in Northern Ireland driving a new 1150m long surface drift for Irish Salt Mining and Exploration Ltd, near Carrickfergus, on the shores of Belfast Lough.

The principal contractor was Joseph Gallagher Ltd and Alan Auld Engineering acted as the designer for the project and supplied the on-site construction support supervision, related to the tunnel drivage and sprayed concrete lining.

The drift was a 8.0m OD circular excavation driven in 2 benches, with a finished ID of 7.3m and a concrete pavement to accommodate the vehicle movements of heavy duty plant into and out of the mine as well as adding additional ventilation for the mine.
