The more strife and hardship there is, the more courage we see. What is courage exactly? I see it as any action knowingly taken by someone that puts either themselves or the people they love at risk. In the recent struggle in Egypt, the actions of Wael Ghonim shine as an example of the courage shown by thousands of ordinary citizens in their struggle to be free of an oppressive government.

Ghonim, a Google executive, used Facebook to start a revolution, something he freely admits. “Yes,” he replied when CNN’s Ivan Watson asked if it had been his intent to do just that. “Call it revolution 2.0,” he said, referencing the part technology played in summoning people to the streets of Egypt to peacefully demonstrate against the government. Ghonim was snatched off the streets by the police (government supporters) and held blindfolded for ten days. The moment he was released he returned to Tahrir Square and rejoined the demonstrators.

Obviously, Ghonim showed courage. He is a national hero. Like all heroes, he had to cross several thresholds……..
