The Little Engine that Could

Retold By: Watty PiperA Platt and Munk ClassicPresentation By: Marc Roche

An engine that was carrying toys for little boys and girls on the other side of the mountain broke down

They asked other trains that passed by to help pull the train over the mountain, but they were all too pompous to do so

Finally Ol’ Blue Train come and saves the day

He thinks he can, and well I don’t want to ruin the story for you

Summary

Chug, chug, chug Puff, puff, puff Ding-dong, ding-dong I am very little, but I think I can- Ol’ Blue

Quotes

Forming- When train broke down and the toys need to find a train bring them over the mountain

Storming- The pompous trains wouldn’t help them get over the mountain

Norming- Ol’ Blue helps them get going over the mountain

Performing- Ol’ Blue gets them over the mountain

Adjourning- Toys get sold in toy store? Pawn Shop? We never find out (something to research)

Tucker Mans 5 Stages (Tuckman)

Toys= Coordinators, Orienteer/Summarizers, Big Followers (rely completely on train)

Blockers= Shiny new engine, Freight Train, Busted down old train, Mountain

Ol’ Blue= Energizer, Harmonizer, Dominator (takes over with long monologues and controls the toys fate)

Functional Roles of Groups

Toys posed with new task (find a new train, or someone who will pull the train)

Conflict erupts into chaos when no train will come help them

No leader emerges until Ol’ Blue comes to save day

We will never know what those toys would’ve done if Ol’ Blue didn’t come, but the path they were on was dangerous

Conflict resolution

Toys are a group when the train breaks down (working Group) Try to come together to fix train, otherstry to convince other trains to come help (Pseudo-Team) When Ol’ Blue comes to save them they have potential (Potential Team) They get over the mountain (Real Team)

Team Building

A lot of good feedback is given throughout

Ex: “I think I can”- Ol’ Blue Bad feedback: “I am a Passenger Engine.

I only carry fine big trains. I pull you? Indeed not!”- Mean Shiny train

Ugly Feedback: “I am a Freight Engine… I won’t pull the likes of you!”- Even Meaner Freight Train

360 Feedback, The good the bad the ugly
