Main requirements • EO derived products are total suspended matter concentration, turbidity
and Chl-a concentration (preferences >80%), followed by the parameters describing the phytoplankton community and its blooming activity
• Nutrients concentration (P and N) and algal biomass are the two parameters commonly preferred among the biogeochemical modeling derived products
• All end-users preferred 5 m and 30 m as spatial resolutions, depending on the dimension and the typology of the study area.
• 1 week and 1 month are the principal delivery times request by end-users. • Standard deviation values is the most useful statistical information, followed
by median and range values. • All users chosen regression analysis as preferred methods for uncertainty
measures for satellite derived data. • For the accuracy of satellite derived data in comparison to in-situ data
difference in % from in-situ values are the preferred choice.

Spatial analysis of Chl-a in Mantua Lake Superior. The yellow zones had higher mean Chl-a concentrations, and would be appropriate
for new in situ sampling sites.
USER REQUEST: which sites are suitable for monitoring algal bloom
Eutrophication in fluvial lakes. Algal bloom. Risk of harmful algal bloom (toxic cyanobacteria).

The process leading to the water’s “milky” appearance can be related to: • sulphur biochemistry under hypoxic conditions (precipitation of carbonates in form of
white suspension), • biological process during anoxic events (white colour is due to temporary
accumulation of sulphur particle within phototropic bacterial cells)
USER REQUEST: spatial and temporal dynamics

Final remarks • The interaction activities with end-users is
important and useful to guide the development and the presentation of EO/model products.
• Continuos feedback allow to elaborate improved products.
• Comments/suggestions/requirements are useful to delevop future satellite missions, EO and model products.
