I LEARN TERM 4 FOCUS: ATTITUDE 15th March 2019
A message from the Headteacher: I’m really pleased that we are able to celebrate and support the national Comic Relief day today. All pupils have been able to come to school in non-uniform and some with touches of red to support the cause. Our three houses, Fitzroy, Pleydell and Goddard have been having an inter-house competition and a cake sale at break and lunchtime. It’s been a very busy day and a very worthwhile cause to support. Have a great weekend!

The Year 8 options evening will be held on Thursday 21st March in West Manor between 4pm and 7pm. This will give parents and pupils the opportunity to talk to teachers about which subjects would be best for them to study in Year 9. The option choices made at this time will be the subjects that your child will study for the next three years, so it is really important that the selections are made carefully and with as much information as possible. Teachers will be available for you to have informal discussions with, they will be able to give you information regarding their subjects and the suitability for your child. There will be two presentations on this evening; one at 5pm and one at 6pm. These will be held in West Manor Hall – no booking is necessary for these. The presentation will explain the options process and also provide advice on how to make the best choice.

Lawn Manor Number Day Cake Sale
Last Friday we had our Number Day which was a great success. All pupils took part in activities during the start of their lesson including answering questions about staff in the Maths department, deciphering tricky reasoning problems and taking part in “Who wants to be a Mathionaire?”. House points were awarded to the winners of each lesson. At break time a cake sale was held, making an impressive £50 for NSPCC. Lunchtime saw “Countdown 2019” kick off where the Year 11 team drew with the staff team, well done to Vamse Velamuri, Mathunan Vickneswaran, Samiran Joshi, Atakan Oktar, Somer Hessell and Travis Rollings.

Our Year 8 football team played their first fixture of the season and finished drawing 2-2 against Kingsdown. The wind had a big impact on the game but despite being behind at half time we scored our equaliser mid-way through the second half. Special mention to Javin Pereira who had never played in goal before but made some fine saves Mr Oliver

It was a pleasure to read the Swindon Advertiser last week and read about how successful Tye Stroud has been in his running. To get to national standard at any sport is highly commendable and very impressive. Tye is a truly focussed pupil who is committed to doing well both in and outside of school. He is a quiet individual who doesn’t boast about his successes. I look forward to hearing more about his achievements in the future. Keep going Tye, everyone at school is proud of you. A day of brain discovery
13th April, 10:30-15:45
Oxford University Museum of Natural History
Join our scientists in workshops to look inside
the brain, break out of the escape room, and
find out about a life working in science!
Lunch and snacks will be provided
Are you a girl aged 11-14 years?
Come and join us for a day of brain discovery!
With hands-on workshops, an escape room, and many
opportunities to talk to our female scientists, you too
can unlock the secrets of the brain.
Workshops:
Sophie’s Photography StudioIn this interactive workshop we will explore how an MRI
image is different from photography. Can you take a selfie
with an MRI scanner? Why are most MRI images black-and-
white? How do you get moving pictures? We will find out!
Discover Connections in the BrainFind out how different areas of the brain are wired together
and how learning to juggle can alter the structure of your
brain.
Escape room: The Brain EscapeCan you find the key to break out of the room? There will be
clues along the way, but only by understanding the secrets of
the brain will you escape.
Panel discussion with inspiring female scientistsAsk them anything. Experiences / careers / education / a life
in science. You ask it, and we’ll answer!
