Bridging Programs
Many universities in Ontario offer bridging programs for internationally educated professionals. For example at Ryerson there are 6 bridging programs.
Language & Soft Skills
• Graduate School: TOEFL, IELTS, MILAB• Bridging Programs: CBLT 7/8, WCC• Undergraduate: University Test of English Proficiency (i.e. RTEP)
Universities require English proficiency tests such as:
Fast Tracking: Transfer Credits
• For example at Ryerson: Where a candidate has completed appropriate graduate courses at an acceptable level from another academic institution, but has not been granted a degree using those courses, they may be considered in partial fulfillment of Ryerson's graduate degree requirements.
• Responsibility for assessing the appropriateness of such courses shall rest with the Director of the Program.
• Credit for such work shall not exceed fifty percent of the Program's course requirements.
Most Universities offer transfer of credits
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
• Universities use PLAR processes and procedures in their programming to identify and document candidates’ credentials, knowledge, and capabilities.
• However, often completing the PLAR process at a University does not guarantee admission to any educational program.
• Candidates who identify and document their prior learning and competency are in a better position to demonstrate their equivalency in relation to academic admission requirements.
• Ryerson: Nursing, Accounting, Financial Services, Social Work for more info• https://plar.de.ryerson.ca/
Admissions-Advising
Typically universities offer advising services for:
• Undergraduate Admissions• Continuing Education Admissions• Graduate Admissions
Conclusion
• Internationally educated professionals (IEPs) face many barriers to labour market integration
• PSE is an excellent alternative in helping IEPs overcome those integration barriers.
