The DU Libraries have added

a new search box to help you find our resources!

http://www.davenport.edu/library

What resources can I FIND

with the new search box?

ONE

Includes many of the full-text articles

out of our databases (not all)

Why not ALL the full-text articles

out of our databases?

Because this service doesn’t get the article

information from the databases.

They get the articles directly from

the publishers, who also sell it to

the databases.

Some of the publishers of the articles

have chosen not to let them index the

articles.

TWO

Includes open source

material

What is open source

material?

Open sourcematerial is

material available without paying for it.

Why don’t you have to pay for it?

a) Its copyright ran out

Examples:-Project Gutenberg - www.gutenberg.org-Hathi Trust - www.hathitrust.org

(public domain items)

Several reasons for Open Source

b) The researchers’ funding body requires free accessExample:U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM) - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/about/public-access-info/

c) Commitment of the publisher to Open AccessExample:-Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - http://doaj.org/-Elsevier - http://www.elsevier.com/about/open-access/open-access-journals
