Africa–All derived from Allada–Brought about by a power struggle

When:

• Began in 1624 • Invaded by France in 1899• Independence in 1960• Ended in 1975

What:

• Absolute Monarchy • The slave trade• European trading posts on the coasts• Friends with Europe–Then France acquired Porto Novo–Lead to major changes

• Powerful army –Women

• Gave sacrifices to King until 19th century• Religion was Vodou

How:

• Lacked advanced civilization untill 1600s• Dogbari created an empire• Conquered Allada and Whydah in the 1720s. –Spurred the slave trade –Growth–Became a regional power
