Summer Worship
Summer Worship at Cross Winds
“Great Words – Big Ideas” with special music and a great worship theme, this summer will be inspiring at Cross Winds.
On Sunday June 9 we start a new message series that I’ve been looking forward to for many years. We will explore great words of the Bible that have deep and rich meaning. Many of you know the Bible was not written in English originally. The Old Testament was largely written in Hebrew with a small portion written in Aramaic. The New Testament was written mostly in Koine Greek, which was the everyday common language of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Each Sunday this summer we’ll explore the nuances of one or two great words of the Bible and tap into their big and rich meaning. In doing so, my prayer is that these great words will help us encounter the love and grace and life God intends for us to enjoy.
June Worship Lineup
Sunday, June 2 – On this Graduation Sunday, Pastor Rachel Devereaux talks about Foundations. Come celebrate the accomplishments of those graduating from schools and programs. Communion will be served,
Sunday, June 9 – Great Words – Big Ideas Pastor Mike Dyrdal kicks off our summer series on Pentecost Sunday as we explore the words pneuma and paraclete – two New Testament words that help us understand and connect with God the Holy Spirit. Music provided by Mary and Gary Muellenberg.
Sunday, June 16 – Something’s not quite right with the world. Or my life for that matter. The New Testament words hamartia and skandalon help us move ahead into God’s hope for our lives through Christ. Pastor Mike is preaching with music by a Men’s Quartet. Happy Father’s Day! Donuts with Dad’s following the worship service.
Sunday, June 23 – Rev. Harold Biederman takes on perhaps the most powerful and amazing word of the New Testament – charis – meaning grace, a free gift. Music provided by a Ukulele Ensemble.
Sunday, June 30 - Worship at Town Green in downtown Maple Grove Cross Winds is again going “on the road” to lead a community worship service celebrating freedom. We’ll be putting our best foot forward and everyone’s help is needed. We’ll let you know how you can help in the weeks prior to the service. The great word for this week is eleutheria which is translated as freedom. Music provided by the Wind of the Spirit Band and choir.

“Time with the Board” Sunday, June 9, following the 9:30 AM worship service in the Fellowship Hall. Cross Winds' Board invites you to this special session with our delegates to the Minnesota Annual Conference. This year’s annual conference meets June 18-20 in St. Cloud. The biggest agenda item will be to confer about Minnesota’s response as an annual conference to the recent actions of the United Methodist denomination regarding our ministry with gays and lesbians. We anticipate being able to share much new information, even though changes may be a year or more in the future. Our delegates to the MN Annual Conference include, Pastors Mike Dyrdal, Shirley Duncanson, Harold Biederman, Rachel Devereaux, and our lay representative Jodi Peschman.

Annual Spring Tea
May 11th was the 14TH Annual Spring Tea featuring a presentation by the Yukimakai tea group: Chanoyu (the Japanese Tea Ceremony). Two different types of ceremonies were presented, a less formal version with the tea host in kimono and a more formal version with the host wearing western dress. The ceremony emphasized respect, tranquility, beauty, friendship and discipline with great attention to detail in movements, presentation and preparation.
Yukimakai hosts an annual tea at the Como Park Tea House and Garden and several other events through the year. They have a facebook page for more information.
The menu featured smoked salmon sushi, dim sum dumplings and curried chicken salad as savories; scones included plain, currant and matcha glazed; sweets were assorted macarons, mochi and Kohakutou Japanese jellies.
Please contact Allyson Tarnowski (aktarnowski@comcast.net) if you’d like to participate in future teas. There is room for everyone!

Giving Update
by Don Bushen, Finance Chair
As our Church heads into the end of the second quarter our financial results are encouraging. Our congregational giving is stable and all expenses we have paid have been per our budgeted expectations. The Finance Team does recognize that we will move into the part of the year in the third quarter that will be very challenging for us. The Finance Team and our Church Board are examining Giving alternatives that are electronic. We feel this will open additional opportunities to enhance the Church's missions and our congregational giving. There will be additional communication about this electronic giving alternative once all of our plans are approved and authorized.
In the meantime your assistance and generous contributions are needed to support all of our critical missions at Cross Winds UMC. If your family would like to provide additional help for Cross Winds UMC, please reach out to our Financial Secretary, Steve Weeks (slweeks@comcast.net). Thank you so much for your generous support and your continued support for our ministries at Cross Winds.
