THE COG - RCM Meeting 1599 Bulletin 21 September 2016
A great evening was had on Wednesday 14th September 2016 when 20 Members and 5 Partners attended the workshop of Ken Vear’s South Australian Woodcarving Academy for a vocational visit meeting. Ken with the assistance of some of his students was able to provide a working demonstration of the art of wood carving. After, those in attendance adjourned to the Parente Ristorante to partake in a very delicious 3 course Italian meal. I would like to thank Ken for making his business premises available to the Club and also to the Club’s Fellowship Director, Marian Jennings, who did an amazing job in coordinating the meal. Well done Ken and Marian. For those who access Facebook, you would have seen contact from Sabrina and David Koetsier who attended a meeting at the Rotary Club of Baku International which is located in Azerbaijan. A photo shows Sabrina and David exchanging club banners. Sabrina commented “We had the pleasure of meeting with the Rotary Club Baku International tonight. A lovely group of people, mainly expats focusing of health and young people”. The Club can look forward to when Sabrina and David return for a presentation on their experiences whilst away. Our next meeting on Wednesday 21 September 2016 will return to our regular venue, The Rezz Hotel and our guest speaker will be Jeff Neale, Principle Dealer, Paradise Motors. Jeff is a long serving Rotarian and is a sponsor of our Club’s Golf Day and his topic will be on the History Of Paradise Motors which is celebrating its 60th anniversary. I have met again this week with other Presidents from Group 7 regarding the organising of the Community Forum evening on the topic of the drug ICE which is to be held on Thursday 24 November 2016. The plans for this event are proceeding very well and full details will be made available soon. Campbelltown Fruit Crew
Are you interested in making a difference in your local community? If so, this could be a project for you!
We are looking for a small group of volunteers to form the INAUGURAL CAMPBELLTOWN FRUIT CREW.
The Fruit Crew concept is for a small team of trained volunteers to harvest excess fruit from local fruit
trees located in private yards and public spaces in the Campbelltown area. The excess fruit will
subsequently be distributed by local organisations working with those in need. In return for surplus fruit,
the Fruit Crew may offer basic fruit tree maintenance.
The project, based on the highly successful Darebin Fruit Squad in Melbourne, is about making use of
existing sources of local fresh fruit that will otherwise end up as waste. Volunteers not only assist in the
practicalities of harvesting, collecting and sharing of fruit, but also help with building friendships and
supporting aged or disabled people to maintain their fruit trees.

District Governors of Rotary Districts 9500 and 9520 will be providing a BBQ for all
those who come along to the joint district working bee at the RAWCS Donations in
Kind (DIK) facility at Edinburgh on Saturday, 12th November 2016. DGs John Pohl
and Sam Camporeale encourage Rotarians and friends from all clubs in the two
districts to attend this working bee that nominally starts at 9:30am and finishes
3:30pm.
Your assistance on the day will greatly help the running of DIK, one of Rotary
Australia World Community Service’s most dynamic but unsung programmes. Your
help on the day will substantially complement the steadfast efforts of the DIK
committee, regular volunteers and clubs that have had working bees at DIK in the
past. As well as providing constructive help to, these working bees provide
Rotarians and friends the opportunity for having fun while working together on a
common cause and good fellowship.
A programme of priority tasks has been identified that would be a great opportunity
for you and your club to get hands on international service locally.
We would appreciate if you could bring along with your enthusiasm, energy and
fellowship some household items that may help on the day such as gloves, mops and
buckets, brooms, dustpans, toolboxes, cordless drills/attachments.

The Rotary Club of Edwardstown invites you to a dinner to celebrate
World Polio Day and raise funds to help complete our global polio eradication initiative. Since the global initiative began more than 25 years ago, Rotary and its partners have reduced polio cases by 99.9% percent worldwide. There are now only two remaining polio endemic countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rotary now needs further funds to complete the final stage of this massive project. Come and hear how you can help Rotary and its partners eradicate this terrible disease from the world. You will hear from one of the workers on the ground who participated in vaccination programs, and also a polio survivor on how polio has affected his li The Rotary Club of Edwardstown END POLIO NOW DINNER
