ENERGY ACTION PLAN
City of Toronto
2007 – Climate Change, Clean Air & Sustainable Action Plan
Not only achieve but exceed Kyoto Targets
Base Year 1999 Reach 6% reduction by 2012 Reduce 22 million tonnes of
CO2 annually
The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place
2004 - Exhibition Place Environmental Plan
Net Energy Self-Sufficiency by December 31, 2010
Base Year 2005
CNEA Board of Directors
Identify & address environmental impacts associated with its site
Implement programs to prevent and/or minimize its environmental footprint
Be an exemplary leader in environmental management
Reduce its electrical demand through operating initiatives
Making 2010 a Reality What Buildings?
Buildings we control – excluded tenanted buildings
Includes CNE
Reduce What? Electrical Energy only
But do not take actions that just convert use of electrical energy to natural gas energy
What target? Net Reduction of 25,177 megawatt hours by 2010
Energy Action Plan – the Why What is the connection between electrical use and greenhouse
gases Each kilowatt hour of electricity use translates into the following
greenhouse gases:
CO2 = Multiply by 0.244 kilograms
SOX = Multiply by 0.000063 kilograms
NOX = Multiply by 0.000348 kilograms
• Connection is coal-fire burning generators
Energy Action Plan – the HOW Energy Efficiencies – 33% 8,308,410Kwh achieved - 13.9% 3,499,603Kwh
• LEED Silver standard for new construction• Geothermal• Lighting Controls
Green/Clean Energy Production – 33% - 8,308,410 achieved - 3.7% 931,549Kwh
• 100 kilowatt PV .4 %• Trigen System 2.9 %• Wind Turbine .4 %
“Negawatts” – 33% - 8,308,410 achieved - 23.5% 5,916,595Kwh Operational/Energy Policy Total Reduction – 41.1% = 10,347,747Kwh

C during normal show or occupied hours
During off hours, air conditioning will be shut off & temperatures may rise above 25º C
Temperatures in the 23-26ºC (73 ºF-78 ºF) range are comfortable for most people as researched by ASHRAE (standard 55-400) Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy
In non-air conditioned space - exhaust or ventilation fans in ventilation mode during normal show or occupied hours & off at all other times.
During show move-in & move-out - there will be no air conditioning only ventilation
Building Interior Lighting Guidelines
Except when required for security purposes all lighting will be turned off when buildings & facilities are unoccupied i.e. end of day when no activities are in progress.
