The Declaration of Independence
Declaring Independence
• Colonists fears about war1. Fear of mob rule
without British control.
2. Failure to win could lead to executions.
3. Merely resisting specific acts would turn British friends against them.
• To offset the arguments of not going to war1. British govt. had
committed acts that had violated their rights as English subjects.
