What’s Now for Utilities? Comments we have collected

• Reconcile/Conflict Management - Large number of conflicts being encountered - Reconcile failures in certain situations

• Geometric Network

- Difficult to identify problem features up front - Need additional tools for finding issues

• Replication

- Occasional loss of data during synchronization - Insufficient logging when problems arise

Esri 2013 Development Initiatives

• Provide existing consumers of the geometric network a release from which they can continue to use our software with confidence

• Proactively looking at the platform as a whole

• Three main areas being reviewed: - Reconcile/conflict management process - Geometric network tools - Replication workflows

• Updates to be made available on the releases you currently deploy

• Utilities and Telecom Quality Improvement Patch (QIP)

Utilities and Telecom QIP

• Release plan - We have built all fixes as part of the 10.2.1 release - Joint holistic testing with Schneider Electric completed in September - Updates are now being ported back to the releases you currently deploy

• Release date

- 10.2.1 is scheduled to ship in November/December - The 10.1 sp 1 version of the QIP is wrapping up now - Work on 10.0 and 9.3.1 versions will follow

Utilities and Telecom QIP

LiDAR at Alabama Power

• Reconducter and Rating Work

• First Greenfield Site 2007 - 2 Years to Acquire Rights, Design, and

Construct 20 Miles of Transmission Line

• NERC FAC-008

The Data Management Problem

• Massive amounts of data (several TBs)

• Geospatial Extents of Data Hard to Determine

• “Kept doing the same thing and expecting different results…”

LiDAR Data

• PLS CADD design-ready files

• Ground and Vegetation files

• Raw and classified LAS files

And Even More Data

• Orthoimagery

• Weather Data

• Monumentation

• Oblique Imagery

• Planametric Drawings

The BIG Questions Where is it?

When was it? What is it?

How do I access it? What do I do with it?

ArcGIS for Imagery Management

• Implementation - Began and ended in June 2013 (9 Days) - Server Setup and Configuration - Scripts to Manage Data and Meta-data - Image and Vector Processing

• Conversion of PLS to LAS

- Investment in Processing/Classification of Data

- Capture of Imagery Color Values - Width Specific (400’ or less)
