The 7th TRT World Rice Conference 2015 moves
from Cambodia’s emerging exports to a market
that is a key destination or import market for
as much as one million tons of rice. A market
that has benefitted from the narrowing of price
between Thai, India, Pak and Viet rice markets. Malaysia
has diversified its rice imports to include imports from all
major rice export origins, as well as a rising Cambodian
and Myanmar presence in Malaysia. The TRT World Rice
Conference 2015 offers delegates ring-side seats to the
largest commercial gathering of rice trade professionals
in the world, and a venue at the heart of Kuala Lumpur
and its own charms that boast 2015 as the year of
festivals. The team at TRT welcomes your attendance!
2015 has revealed yet another unique year, and as the
saying goes, there are no two similar years in the rice
markets. We saw El Nino fears set into the horizon as a
risk that left us with a drought in California. With constant
talk of dry weather and floods as we saw drought or
water scarcity affect Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia
amongst others, while we also saw floods devastate
Myanmar as weather concerns drove supply. In demand,
we witnessed the fall of the Euro, currency controls in
Nigeria and Gambia, as well as import allocations or
limits hit Senegal in a risk filled market that ensured
that the skills of the trader was tested to the full. Policy
remains a factor as we saw Thailand decide on when and
how to release and auction rice stocks, we saw China
seemingly control imports by linking import quotas to
activities involving the purchase of state stocks were just
two of the more significant developments that shaped
the mood in trade.
We meet once again, just ahead of the peak of Thai, India,
Pakistan, Myanmar and Cambodian harvests, timing is
excellent for not just intelligence, but for trading, and
business opportunities to be developed. One statement
need not change and that is that the corridors of TRT
World Rice Conference will have many stories to tell of
deals and will continue to be an important feature of an
event strong in its networking foundations.
TRT World Rice Conference 2015 is in its seventh year, and
delivers an expert team of speakers who will share their
views, address the developments in key markets, and
shed light on important issues faced in the industry. The
networking possibilities remain at its core and a sure way
to mix business and pleasure with the aim of building
stronger business ties and knowledge within and around
the businesses that shape the global rice trade.
